Music, Poetry and British Grub at The Forge, Camden

Where The Forge, Camden What Camden culture vultures are being encouraged to dine at The Forge. Located just off Camden High Street is the beautifully designed concert venue offering lucky North London visitors top quality classical, jazz, folk and spoken word events – and first-rate British cuisine. Experience The menu is almost split in two. On the left is a choice of sophisticated modern British cuisine for those looking to have a relaxed meal and on the right is a selection of homemade burgers, for those wanting to grab a quick bite before the show. For starter, my friend ordered the cured gravlax seasoned with dill and pepper which was fresh, light and smoky. It was accompanied by a side of indulgent horseradish cream, capers, a lemon wedge and tonnes of lightly toasted doorstep granary bread. I opted for the roasted Portobello mushroom topped with goats cheese and stuffed with thyme, garlic, more mushrooms and served with salad leaves and caramelised onions. Each mouthful was a joy to eat and I even wiped my plate …

5CC Exmouth Cocktail Crate

Where 5CC Club, Exmouth Arms, Exmouth Market What Food and drink hotspot Exmouth Market welcomes 5CC’s latest cocktail innovation, hidden above the recently renovated Exmouth Arms. Experience Summer is here and with it brings welcome sunshine to Londoners. The Exmouth Arms is a rare gem of a central London boozer – it offers outdoor seating to soak up all that vitamin D and a bespoke cocktail crate to wind down handcrafted cocktails from the 5CC bar upstairs to sun seekers below. Bar Manager Charles Montanaro told Food for Think “The aim of our designed crate is that we bring the cocktails to you”. I stood outside gazing up at the window eagerly awaiting my Chai Whiskey Sour.  “Number 8”, the cocktail waiter hollered from the window above while winding down the crate using the set-up pulley system. I made my way to the dropping station to pick up my spicy, refreshing cocktail. This is what summer is for. Sip your way through the menu and when the sun goes down head in to 5CC’s sexy …

ShareEast Supper Club at East Village

What ShareEast Supper Club I remember watching the Olympic Park develop from my neighbouring home in East London. I was lucky enough to bag tickets to the event too. After all the excitement of the games, London was left to wonder what lay in store. After years of post-games development, the space has been transformed into 67 acres of breathtaking park land with a newly developed community on the doorstep. East Village, set in the former Olympic Village, is London’s newest neighbourhood. Fast becoming a hot spot for food and wine enthusiasts, it welcomes a string of restaurants this spring, including Neapolitan pizzeria Firezza and Dalston favourite coffee and cocktail joint Tina, We Salute You. East Village going one step further to inject a community feel by launching a unique scheme, aptly named ShareEast, which encourages neighbours to participate in a monthly supper club – ‘Come Dine With Me’ style. The host for the evening will have the chance to show off their culinary skills while ShareEast covers the cost of the ingredients. All guests …

Les Gourmes des Ternes, Knightsbridge

Where Les Gourmes de Ternes, Knightsbridge What Famous Parisian restaurant Les Gourmes des Ternes opens its doors in Kightsbridge. Experience You will find Les Gourmes des Ternes tucked-up on a quaint narrow street a few steps away from Knightsbridge station. From outside the French restaurant barely looked open, but as we were greeted at the door and shown past a ruby velvet curtain we realised the shy exterior was all part of the mystery. We arrived a little early for our table so were shown upstairs for an aperitif. The bar was beautifully decorated with antiques meticulously collected from both France and the UK. The secret cocktail bar, fittingly named Rendez-Vous, resembled a 1920’s Parisian speakeasy. “What can I get you?” asked our bearded French bartender. I requested his favourite cocktail and accepted his invite to try Perfect Thym. I sat at the mahogany bar and sipped on my drink which was shaken with Tanqueray gin, crème d’abricot, thyme syrup, orange bitter, egg white and a squeeze of lemon, while my friend Tom admired the vintage fussball table in …
