Hip Hop Brunch – Drake Style

I’m too old for clubbing – in the traditional sense anyway. I’m not exactly ancient, but going to bed post 2am after having drank my bodyweight in alcohol has started to take its toll in recent years. I know I sound like a nana, but I have long been saying I’d much rather start early and end early. Daytime fun is massively underrated, especially in a city that never sleeps. So when I was invited to pop down and try a Drake inspired bottomless brunch by the Hip Hop Brunch crew, I had to try it. Not only were we going to be spending a few hours in a dark air conditioned pub on one of the hottest days of the year (I’m probably the only person in London rejoicing at this), we were also going to be feasting on three courses and bottomless booze, all while listening to the best of Drake. If you haven’t heard of Hip Hop Brunch before, it is an award winning brunch event, which takes place in a secret …

Cantina Laredo

What A guacamole and tequila bar has opened in Covent Garden’s Cantina Laredo. With eight different guacamole and an array of tequila available alongside a delectable Mexican menu.   Where Cantina Laredo http://www.cantinalaredo.co.uk/ 10 Upper St Martin’s Ln, London WC2H 9FB   Experience When asked what my favourite cuisine is it changes daily but the answer that pops up most frequently is Mexican. There are so many things to love about Mexican food (and drink) but I think the one thing that really sets it above the rest is guacamole. Nothing beats it. Nothing. So when I heard about bar dedicated to guacamole and tequila I was understandably VERY excited. And I was not disappointed. Cantina Laredo has established itself in Covent Garden for some time now, but have recently gone through a refurbish with the addition of the said guacamole and tequila bar. 8 different types of guacamole on the menu alongside various tequila infusions – it really was a treat! We managed to try three of the guacamoles, my personal favourite was the …

Brixton Beach

What Brixton Beach Summer Pop-Up Where Brixton Beach Rooftop Pope’s Road, Brixton London, SW9 8JH Experience Brixton Beach is back, and just in time for the heat wave! In the words of our favourite Wham boys ‘all that’s missing in the sea, but don’t worry you can suntan’! Or sit in the shaded huts, whatever. On a roof in the heart of Brixton Market, Brixton Beach hosts some cracking food stalls. Among them are my favourite New Yorkers from Del74 serving up tacos and margaritas to liven up your beach trip. Del74 has a permanent restaurant on my road in Clapton which I rave about SO much I was given two ‘vouchers’ from my pals for my birthday (but shhh…it’s my little secret!) I arrived before my friend, but took the opportunity to begin my wander around the rooftop. It was a feast for the eyes and ears. The DJ was playing Cuban beats, the sun was shining and the cocktail list was tropical. I ordered two beers from the bar, grabbed my friend from the …

Decaf Delights

What was becoming a seemingly endless quest in my life, may now finally be drawing to an end and it looks like there may in fact be light at the end of the tunnel. It’s rare to come across a decaffeinated coffee that is so rich in flavour and still gives you that same satisfying feeling as when you are indulging in a fresh, steamy hot cup of coffee. As the name already says, Decadent Decaf is the height of luxury when it comes to the magical black been that has been energizing man-kind for the past thousand years. This one without the caffeine of course, but don’t let that lead you into thinking it will be flavourless and and sans body. Quite the opposite, times are changing and decafs are entering the 21st century with a bang.  As many others, I was of the belief that the decaffeination process sucked all the life out of coffee beans and left a kind of dirty coloured undrinkable matter. Guy Wilmot, Co Founder of Decadent Decaf, explains …

When hearts and bellies meet

What Pasta’n’Goulsh http://www.pasta-n-goulash.co.uk What A ‘Hungarian-Italian fusion’ winter pop-up bar and kitchen, right in the heart of Holborn (for now) Where Temporarily homed in The Plot Twist in Russel Square Experience While Hungarian and Italian might not sound like the most naturally complimentary cuisines, they are united by one crucial characteristic that we all crave at this time of year – stodge. Pasta’n’Goulash is the brain child of partners in business and in life, Agata and Tamas, and comes to the bellies of Londoners at a time when we need it most (because nothing trumps winter quite like potatoes served in bread). On arrival, we were greeted by the aforementioned couple who, I think it’s safe to say, were no less than the most charming hosts I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting. I am a sucker for schmaltz so fell hook, line and sinker for their tale of love at first sight. Originally from Parma and Budapest respectively, the pair met in London and ‘from that moment decided to share life together’, uniting their …
