Quinoa and Feta Salad

There is NOTHING better than a good salad on a hot summers day – and today was no exception. After visiting the M&G Garden at Chelsea Flower Show this afternoon in the swealtering heat and stupidly getting sucked into the temptations of Oxford Street, I headed to the cool and quiet Waitrose foodhall in John Lewis to purchase a few bits and bobs to make a very delicious and healthy Quinoa Salad. The recipe serves four but my boyfriend and I were particularly hungry this evening so there was nowt left. Quinoa and Feta Salad, originally uploaded by Food For Think. Chorizo, Butter Bean and Spinach with Sea Bass

When stuck for what to cook, I can always count on a combination of Chorizo, Tomatoes, and Butter Beans. Today is one of those days – the sun isn’t making it’s mind up and I don’t know whether to go with something hearty or light so to make things easier I revert to an old favourite. I usually eat this meal with a bowl of roast potatoes or rice but having just found some good quality Sea Bass in the local supermarket, I decided to go for this and some added spinach. Ingredients 1 medium red onion, diced 1 red chilli, chopped finely 3 cloves of garlic, crushed 3 bay leaves 2 x 400g tinned tomatoes 1 x 420g tin of butter beans, drained Chorizo (as much as you want) 2 sea bass fillets 400g bag of spinach Juice of 1/2 lemon 1 tsp butter Method 1. Heat a large pan with olive oil. Add onions and chilli and fry off until onions are translucent. Add garlic and fry for another minute 2. Add the …

Making Dim Sum with Angela Malik

My first cookery school experience took place on Thursday at Angela Malik in Acton. I turned up not knowing what to expect but arrived to an array of smiling faces, a glass of wine and a taster of Angela’s Indian Pesto’s. Angela’s cookery school is based in her and her husbands old shop unit in Acton. As you walk in, you enter into the deli area where Angela sells a range of her own chutneys and pestos along with sweets, tins and bottles of her favourite asian food brands. Go further back and you enter a long, narrow cookery school with 8 benches. We were asked to sling on our aprons and wash our hands before we were given an introduction to the cookery school. Angela really has a knack for teaching – I was enthralled as she passionately talked about the 5 taste sensations. Armed with a white board, the guests shouted out ingredients that came under each sensation category. Angela is a firm believer that every food that we eat should be a …

Miele Gallery Launch

When I was invited to the Miele London Gallery launch party, I obliged. I was looking forward to it because all of the appliances in my kitchen are Miele. We have the oven, hob, hood, fryer, steamer and espresso maker, half of which I never use so I wanted to grill (excuse the pun) the experts. I arrived at the gallery and thought that from the outside it looked fantastic and well lit. You can see inside easily and the view of the appliances was enticing. I walked in and immediately received a warm welcome and a complimentary Veuve Clicquot champagne and was just in time for the official opening by Dr. Miele and Dr. Zinkaan, joint Managing Directors and Co-Proprietors of Miele. We were able to wander around and try the canapes that were being cooked before us using the various different appliances that were on show. My favourite canapés were quails breast on mini toast and dumplings that were being cooked in the steamer. There was a live demonstration by Steve Groves, winner …

Food Bloggers Connect 09

I spent my tube journey home last night examining the different tools my Lumix camera has to offer and that is thanks to the Bloggers Connect event that I attended yesterday at Levant in Central London. I heard about the event from the lovely Bethan a la dirtykitchensecrets after she posted a comment on my blog a couple of months ago. The event intrigued me, not only because it the first bloggers conference in the UK but I would be able meet and put faces to the people whose blogs I have been reading for a while. I didn’t know what to expect and was a little nervous walking in there on my own not knowing anyone but all nerves were shattered once I started talking. It wad a great event and I met some lovely people, some of who’s blogs I am not familiar with but look forward to reading! We started with a drink and chat then moved onto the Lebanese buffet that was prepared for us along with Lola’s mini cupcakes and …
