Where Taking place in bars, supermarkets and independent off licenses across London, Manchester, Edinburgh and Liverpool including 155 Bar & Kitchen, The Hawksmoor, Waitrose and Gerry’s of Soho. http://www.nationalcalvadosweek.com Experience It’s the time of year when Normandy’s finest green apples are harvested then transformed into the golden nectar that is Calvados. The complex, warming apple brandy is as fresh and pure as the beguiling French countryside from which it is born. My new favorite autumn tipple is not as well known in the UK as it should be. Take the opportunity this week to sample it for yourselves with special cocktails menus, Père Magloire Calvados range tasting, food pairing and specially prepared menus cooking with Calvados taking place all over the city. Make mine a large avec de le glace, and show me the cheese board!

Barrio Soho has a Makeover

What Barrio Soho Where 6 Poland Street, Soho W1F 8PS Experience Goodbye Barrio Central, hello Barrio Soho. One of London’s favourite Latino late night hangouts is re-launching with new decor, a new chef, new cocktails and a new Mexican-centric food menu. Fear not Barrio lovers, live music and general party vibes haven’t gone anywhere. Recently appointed Group Head Chef Ernesto Pavia (Garufa and Garufin, Bubbledogs) sees the return to authentic Latin American food influenced by his Peruvian routes. The menu, designed with the relaxed atmosphere of Barrio Soho in mind, comprises an assortment of snacks, small plates, tacos and sharing platters. We love the sound of Ceviche Mixto, fresh mix of seafood in tiger’s milk, with avocado, crispy sweet potato & serrano chilli. The heavenly Elotes are perfect for sharing, three perfectly formed grilled corn on the cobs slathered with cheese, lime and chilli mayo, aww hell yes! The fun continues into the cocktail menu. If, like me, you love a good rum cocktail then you are in the right place. The Gingerbread Colada puts a …

No.11 Pimlico Road: Cocktail Making Masterclass with Elvis

What No. 11 Pimlico Road is a totally independent neighbourhood bar and restaurant with a cool and contemporary interior, proving the perfect atmosphere (all with added in-house DJs) for drinking, eating and unwinding. No. 11 is twinned with No.32 the Old Town, Clapham, which is not only my local but my favourite haunt south of the river- all adding to the excitement of tonight. Where No. 11 Pimlico Road, SW1W 8NA http://no11pimlicoroad.co.uk/ The Experience On a drizzly and dark (how is it only October?!) evening, I have to say that it would take only a very special occasion to persuade me to shift from the sofa with a cup of tea to a cocktail bar. But having received the beautiful invitation for a Cocktail Making Masterclass with No. 11 Pimlico Road’s one and only expert barista Elvis, I knew immediately that we were in for something special. After a warm welcome and introductions with the fabulous Melanie Marriott (Managing Director of the Darwin & Wallace Group), we were invited upstairs to the beautiful event space …

Café Mish

What Café Mish is the latest addition to London’s thriving food scene and offers mouth-watering gourmet sandwiches for eat in or take away. Where 1A Shepherd Street, London W1J Experience I arrived at Café Mish just before the lunch rush. The first thing that struck me was the roasted meat on the back counter. Huge slabs of Salt Beef, Roast Lamb and Roast Angus were screaming ‘slice me up and smother me in dijonnaise’ over the counter. Then I looked at the menu above me and saw Goosenargh Corn-Fed chicken with avocado, Romaine lettuce and Espelette tarragon mayonnaise. My mind was made up, I was ordering both. No, not just for me! I had arranged to meet my friend in Green Park around the corner. We decided to treat the Roasted Chicken served in a thick sesame roll as a starter. It was jam-packed full of chicken encased in tarragon mayonnaise, which somehow managed to be creamy, rich and light. The Salt Beef gourmet sandwich was the star of the show; slow braised salted beef …
