The Experience
Upon entry of the launch for this brand new haunt on the river, we were presented with a goodie bag filled with drinks vouchers, showcase menus and even their very own house chilli oil (complete with recipe for the perfect crispy fried chicken accompaniment)- we knew it was going to be a good night. The Tavern, although newly refurbished, felt familiar and welcoming and all of the staff were delightfully friendly and greeted us incredibly warmly.
Inside, the Tavern had been set up with various stations presenting a representation of the types of cocktails that will be on the menu. These included cocktails, wine, ales and beers. Giant, ice filled and beautifully orange Aperol Spritz and Bitter Lemon Grey Goose Vodka Fizz cocktails were the showstoppers- absolutely perfect for a girly catch up. The wine and cider are provided from local businesses such as Aspalls (representatives were present, along with samples) who also regularly host Wine vs. Cider nights which are hugely popular- details to follow!
With such fabulous drinks and a buzzing atmosphere, the only thing that could have made the night more of a success was nibbles- and again we weren’t disappointed! A showcase of locally sourced cheeses and antipasti, including a particularly moreish Oxford Blue meant that we did not go without. Dishes that will be on the menu regularly were presented- pizza slices and mini shepherd’s pie with a sweet potato topping were included- the food is honest, packed with flavour and all freshly made in the kitchen. The food and drinks available at the Tavern are of amazing quality and all have a history- it was great to meet the experts behind them.
The Tavern has a variety of areas available – including a big, beautiful outdoor terrace. For large groups, the ‘upper deck’ is the place to be and boasts great views of the river.
We were made to feel so relaxed and welcome which I’m sure will make it a popular venue for Christmas parties in the coming months.
“With fun events, great food and an enviable drinks list, including craft beers, fine wines and long drinks, we have everything that you could possibly want in Nine Elms”.
