Andalucian tapas and sherry at Casa Brindisa

Brindisa is one of those places in London that i’ve heard so much about but despite all of the glowing reviews and compliments, I have never made it – until last night that is. I embarked on my journey to South Kensington last night with high hopes – I was about to attend a Sherry and Andalucian tapas tasting evening at Casa Brindisa. One of my favourite cuisines is Spanish, probably due to the amount of time I spent in Spain when I was a child. Maybe not an awful lot in comparison to the more well seasoned traveller but nonetheless it gave my pallet and taste buds a firm grounding. So the point of the evening: to introduce a range of press and bloggers to the new supper clubs held at the venue plus the Andalucian menu that will run through the month of September. The venue itself, sweet and atmospheric with a bar area, tapas area, ham carving counter and a room at the bottom, which lets you look into the kitchen. Peter …

Meet me on the Towpath in Dalston

A few weeks ago I arranged a lunch with @MathildeCuisine for today – how lucky were we with the weather! Myself and @foodiestgeorge went along to meet Mathilde at Towpath, a new venture from writer Lori De Mori and photographer Jason Lowe on a less glamerous stretch of Regents Canal. Upon arrival, I was unsurprised to see mismached furniture and crowd of ‘cool’ punters that looked like artists – most probably residents or workers in a nearby art gallery. I was also unsurprised to see that the bank was full to the brim on what seemed like the hottest day of the year so far. It didn’t take us too long to get a seat and we were lucky to bag one by the water facing into the sun. The menu isn’t huge and they had sold out of an asaparagus dish (a shame as I am rather partial to a bit of asparagus) but we ordered three dishes to share: Pork Rillett Pork Rillette, originally uploaded by Food For Think. Tabbouleh Tabouleh, originally uploaded …

#PizzaTuesday at Franco Manca

Franco Manca has long been on my radar but a visit to the Chiswick High Road branch was my first. I had tried and failed to visit the Brixton branch before I went to a gig at the academy, not realising that they close at 5pm due to being situated in Brixton Market. Pizza is fast trending in London and I am becoming less scared of being torn to shreds when my answer to peoples question of what is my favourite meal being pizza. Of course I don’t mean Dominos or Pizza Hut but there are many fantastic authentic pizza restaurants popping up all over London. Daniel Young, the brains behind #PizzaTuesday talks so passionately of a dish that was once thought of as the easy and, pardon my expression, chavvy choice. He referred to Pizza Express as the Starbucks of the pizza world, hugely popular but there are better and more authentic pizza establishments popping up around London. I do agree with him but i’m still drawn into Pizza Express once every couple of …

Afternoon Tea at The Lanesborough

What better way to start British summertime than with a quintessentially British afternoon tea at The Lanesborough. As I walk out at 6.15pm into day light, my waistband digs into me more so than it did before I filled myself with morsels of traditional English delight. An afternoon tea with three fellow food bloggers (Mathilde’s Cuisine, Gourmet Chick and Greedy Diva) was a perfect way to end the weekend. Although my two days off work have been full of butter, sugar, flour and egg mixtures in my own kitchen, it was great to end with a bit of posh. This was my first London hotel afternoon tea experience having previously visited Bea’s of Bloomsbury with my mum when she came to London, although you cannot really compare the two – both exquisite in their own ways. The Lanesborough adds a touch of grandeur to the life of a girl in her early 20’s living in Wembley. The seating impeccably comfortable, the silverware petit, the napkins placed neatly on your knee by a witty and quietly …

Moroccan Tagine, Golborne Road

I bought my mum a train ticket to come to London for Mother’s Day this weekend. I normally go back home rather than her visit me but I really wanted to treat her this weekend. She arrived on Friday afternoon and I met her from the station. I had decided mid week that we would go for a Moroccan – partly because I have been wanting to try a Moroccan restaurant just off Portobello Road and partly because she mentioned that she would love to go for some Moroccan food. I’m not sure where I had heard about this place but I know that the name and a description by one person ‘a hidden gem’ stuck in my head. So off we went to Ladbroke Grove – I have only ever walked down Portobello Road when the market has been on so it was quite odd to see next to no people around, even the pubs weren’t busy. We had a couple of girly wines and walked to the address that I had written down …
