Melt Room – Say Cheese

What The grilled cheese sandwich goes gourmet at London’s first American-style grilled cheese diner. Experience The Melt Room is taking grilled cheese sandwiches to the next level. I met up with my cheese fanatic friend Lucy in Soho before wandering over to Noel Street on a busy Friday afternoon. The pocket sized 12 seater diner, fittingly decorated bright yellow, stands out for all the right reasons. Inside, the simple menu offers melts including slow and low lamb shoulder with mustard greens and melted Swiss and Portobello mushroom with thyme, roasted peppers and provolone. Behind the glass cabinet I was tempted by the pastrami with porcini, Sparkenhoe Red Leicestershire and horseradish melt. The crust was evenly toasted and crunchy. The filling was salty and oozed with delicious British farmhouse cheese. Three thumbs up! A Melt Room grilled cheese is not for the feint hearted. What An evening of Champagne tasting at Champagne Plus Fromage Where Champagne Plus Fromage, Brixton Village Experience On a rare smoking hot summer evening I headed down to Brixton’s Champagne Plus Fromage to enjoy a taster evening with co-founder Maud Fierobe. Champagne Plus Fromage is a collaboration between French Bubbles who import award winning limited production grower champagne and Une Normande à Londres, a family owned company who bring to London the very best artisan cheese, cured meat and preserves from across France. The shop and bistro (there is also one in Covent Garden and another recently opened in Greenwich Village) serve beautiful artisan food within their bustling rustic interior with shelves piled high with jars of terrine, rillettes, cassoulets and delicious confits. Their Fromagerie serves over 50 different types of soft and hard cheeses and a selection are expertly paired to compliment the 4 different Champagnes we would be drinking that evening.
