Aquum, Clapham

What Aquum has re-launched as a late night drinking, dining and dancing destination. Where 68-70 Clapham High St, London SW4 7UL Experience It was my first visit to Aquum which has been completely refurbished into a modern, vibrant restaurant – turned late night bar. It was the type of place you could imagine ordering shots and dancing until the early hours. I was joined by an old friend Lucinda who within minutes was speaking to a handsome man at the bar. I left her to it while I pondered over the menu. My first drink of the evening was a Greek Negroni. A thirst quenching blend of Campari, Bombay Sapphire, sweet vermouth, and made Greek by the addition of Skinos Mastic liqueur. The liqueur made the usually bitter cocktail sweet enough to be palatable for the rest of the evening, so I ordered another. The food menu offered contemporary Greek dishes which features sharing plates, fresh salads and grilled meats. Lucinda and I sampled a few sharing dips with sourdough bread. If you are familiar …

MOMMI

What MOMMI Japanese-Latin Raw Bar and Grill has arrived in Clapham. Experience Mister Important designed the urban modern luxe interior, decorated with photography by Ben Watts (brother of actress Naomi Watts) and a bespoke mural by Melbourne-based street artist RONE. My eyes were drawn to the low marble-topped bar surrounding all the action of the theatre kitchen. We pulled out a stool and perked our bottoms. The kitchen is run by Paul Sowden who has designed a menu influenced by both Japanese and Latin cuisine which, when combined, emanates a Miami vibe. The menu is bursting with a mix of fresh raw seafood, vibrant salads and Robata-grilled meats. Most dishes are healthy small plates designed to order in bulk and share. I played roulette with a bowl of Padron Peppers with Sea Salt. “They aren’t spicy at all” my friend boasted, chomping down on another pepper. I smirked, perhaps a little sadistically, when he reached for the water to cool down. The dish was great, and really fun! From the Robata Grill, we sampled smoky …

The Four Thieves, Battersea

Where The Four Thieves, Battersea What The Four Thieves, part of The Laines Pub Company, has just opened on Lavender Hill in Battersea. With its own on site brewery and distillery making craft beer and Four Thieves gin this new site will have the perfect tipples to match head chef Hayden Smith’s menu. The Experience Upon entering the restaurant I have to say that my first reaction was surprise, closely followed by delight! The eclectic mix of décor; dim, warm lights and the quietly busy atmosphere made for the perfect location for a few after work drinks and dinner. We were shown to our table, beautifully set with a personalized white painted ‘reserved’ sign, and were soon handed a drinks menu with a choice of 80 different gins. The restaurant houses its very own drinks distillery and is soon to open its own mini brewery. They take massive pride in their choices of tipple, and we couldn’t wait to try. To start, we tried a festive saffron and orange gin cocktail and a clean, sweet …
