Beany Green – Bringing the Lunch Box to Life

Where Beany Green, London What Beany Green has opened a flagship cafe in the new Broadgate Circus development tucked behind Liverpool Street Station. Experience Australian born Prue Freeman and her English partner Tom Onions gave it all up to bring hand crafted coffees to the City in 2012. Now launching their filth venue, Beany Green offers a larger city venue with tables located around the open-aired terrace of Broadway Circus, prefect for people watching. Forget those soggy sandwiches and boring packaged salads. Beany Green is on a mission to revolutionise the diet of the average city worker with their bold, healthy food offerings and perfectly roasted coffee. Order a Beany Green Salad Box packed full of your choice of three freshly prepared, daily-changing salads devised by Ottolenghi-trained Executive Chef Tricia Jadoonanan – yummy! Beany Green screams ‘upbeat Melbourne cool’ without being pretentious. OH – and it has a trick up its sleeve. It’s open in the evening to stir and shake the most incredible cocktails. The Espresso Martini is made with freshly poured coffee house …

Bourbon Masterclass with Buffalo Trace, TwoRuba

Where TwoRuba Bar & Lounge, Hilton London Tower Bridge What Tworuba is a plush bar and restaurant located on the ground floor of the Hilton Tower Bridge Hotel, serving a range of cocktails and creative small plates. From March, the bar will be hosting monthly whiskey tasting master classes in partnership with Kentucky distillery, Buffalo Trace. We were invited to a preview evening in lieu of the launch. Experience I headed straight from work to Tooley street and found my friend Dan, not waiting outside the Hilton Hotel as arranged, but downing an ale in the old man boozer over the road. We trotted over to The Hilton and were greeted at reception by a nice lady who showed us through to TwoRuba. The masterclasses are held in a private room just off the main bar that is decadent, cosy and more importantly, had glasses of bourbon everywhere! Dan looked confused and disappointed – he clearly thought that I was taking him biscuit tasting – but he soon cheered up when we were handed a …

The Landmark London

Where The Landmark London What Dine Around – Food and Drink experience at The Landmark London Experience If you haven’t been lucky enough yet to visit The Landmark London then make this a priority as it’s absolutely breathtaking and an experience not to miss. Mirror Bar – Cocktails and Canapes A few weeks ago I went for dinner and drinks at The Landmark London. My evening started off with pre drinks and canapes in the Mirror Bar.  I decided to be brave and try the Pickled Onion Vodka Martini, a combination of Babicka Vodka, Vya Dry Vermouth, dashes of lemon bitters and a pickled onion. I would be lying if I didn’t say I was a little apprehensive; I love onions especially picked onion, but in a cocktail – I wasn’t so sure. I was very pleasantly surprised though, as it was deliciously different and impressively presented. Being brave certainly paid off and I’m now eager to return and try the mushroom & truffle martini. The canapes that accompanied the cocktails were just as tasty and …

Trader Vic’s, London Hilton Hotel

Where Trader Vic’s, London Hilton Hotel, Park Lane What Trader Vic’s is part of an international group of restaurants and home to the original Mai Thai rum based cocktail. As a celebration of 70 years of Trader Vic’s and 80 years of the Mai Thai cocktail, five Tiki films, shot on location at Trader Vic’s worldwide, have been made, showcasing bartenders from some of London’s popular Tiki bars who have recreated famous tiki cocktails including The 1944 Mai Tai. Experience My visit to Trader Vic’s a few weeks ago was my first, but it certainly won’t be my last. I loved the very  traditional island décor and felt like I was walking into a Polynesian wonderland. The extensive cocktail list is very impressive and whilst sitting in the Mai Tai Lounge my friend and I started to browse the comprehensive list, however with too many enticing tiki cocktails to choose from, we asked the waitress for some guidance. She enthusiastically recommended starting with the original 1944 Mai Tai, so with that we ordered two. Unsurprisingly …

Drink Shop & Do

My dream is to open somewhere like Drink Shop & Do. Everything in this quaint cafe in Kings Cross is for sale – crafts, vintage tea sets, 1950’s dressers and unusual tables and chairs. Plus, they serve home made Cakes, Ice Cream, Speciality Teas and even Cocktails. They hold a range of events and are open to serve afternoon teas, lunch and the have a licence to serve cocktails at what they call ‘Cocktail o’clock’. The shop is in two parts – a sweet shop in the front as you walk in plus a range of designer crafts for sale – even wool and knitting needles if you wish to have an afternoon nit in the cafe up at the top. Then it’s up the stairs to the high ceilinged cafe. We sat on a large round glass table with mis matched vintage chairs – there were a few board games under the table to play if you wanted. There is a selection of food available from Sandwiches, Pork Pies and Quiche to home made …
