Head Over Hills Luxury Retreat: stunning views and a £50,000 bed – Knysna, ZA

What Head Over Hills is a 5* luxury retreat situated along the Garden Route of South Africa. Experience Despite spending 8 weeks working at a state hospital in Cape Town, it would be a lie to say that the last few months have been in any way stressful. Joe and I are absolutely in love with South Africa and have enjoyed treating ourselves to all of the delights that this incredibly beautiful country has to offer. These treats are largely focused around the themes of eating and drinking, relaxing and having a great time. So with these aims in mind, we decided to spend our final two weeks in South Africa travelling along the Garden Route with various stops along the way. The Garden Route is essentially the N2 highway which starts in Cape Town, in the Western Cape, and meanders 800km along the coast to Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape. However, this is no motorway as we know it. Along its course the road travels past some of the most beautiful beaches in the …

InterContinental – Wellington, New Zealand

What A luxurious stay at Intercontinental, Wellington Where 2 Grey Street Wellington 6011 New Zealand The Experience “I don’t remember the last time I was this tired”, I muttered to Kayla as we walked down the coast of Kiakoura on the South Island of New Zealand. We were on the way to the Dolphin Encounter center to put on our wet suits and be transported by boat to the middle of the ocean where we would be spending the morning swimming with 800 dolphins. Later that day we travelled to Wellington, where we spent the last night of the 21 day adventure tour saying our goodbyes over lots of drinks and shots. Waking up the next day with not only a stinking hangover, but a dark cloud over my head because the best 21 days I have ever experienced had ended, was exceptionally hard. But not all was lost, because I was about to check in to one of my favourite hotels in the world – the Intercontinental in Wellington. As I stumbled into the …

The Landmark London

Where The Landmark London What Dine Around – Food and Drink experience at The Landmark London Experience If you haven’t been lucky enough yet to visit The Landmark London then make this a priority as it’s absolutely breathtaking and an experience not to miss. Mirror Bar – Cocktails and Canapes A few weeks ago I went for dinner and drinks at The Landmark London. My evening started off with pre drinks and canapes in the Mirror Bar.  I decided to be brave and try the Pickled Onion Vodka Martini, a combination of Babicka Vodka, Vya Dry Vermouth, dashes of lemon bitters and a pickled onion. I would be lying if I didn’t say I was a little apprehensive; I love onions especially picked onion, but in a cocktail – I wasn’t so sure. I was very pleasantly surprised though, as it was deliciously different and impressively presented. Being brave certainly paid off and I’m now eager to return and try the mushroom & truffle martini. The canapes that accompanied the cocktails were just as tasty and …

Truffle Menu at Diciannove, Crown Plaza

Where Diciannove at the Crowne Plaza Hotel What An exclusive truffle menu created by chef Alessandro Bay to celebrate the Truffle Season, using white truffles from Umbria. The Experience I must admit, before this experience I’d never quite understood the fascination with truffles. Not only are they essentially weird looking little mushrooms, they suffer the indignity of being sniffed and snorted and hunted out by hairy pigs and trained ‘truffle dogs’ in the countryside of France and Italy before being shipped to our shores. However, I appear to be in the minority – they are the diamonds of haute cuisine, the second most expensive ingredients in the world (coming in just behind caviar).  Warring Umbrian farmers have even been known to murder each others prized pigs in an effort to win the truffle wars. I’ve had hints of truffle in dishes before, and been known to use the now-disgraced truffle oil in cooking occasionally, but never really embraced them. Where better to give them the full appraisal than by trying a full truffle menu at Diciannove? Chef Alessandro has designed three truffle-heavy …

Hotel La Tremoille, Paris

If it’s good enough for Gaga, it’s good enough for me. La TREMOILLE was just what we needed after a busy few days of wandering the city of Paris, dancing our feet off at Pitchfork festival and eating a glut of rich food. It’s everything you would expect from a boutique five star hotel in one of the most luxurious and romantic cities in the world. Exceptionally friendly and helpful staff, a bed fit for five kings, all the amenities you could possibly need, no less than a choice of six Moulton Brown shower gels, the softest bath robes and padded slippers, high ceilings and a balcony looking out onto the cobbled streets below. As I entered the room, the child in me was unleashed and I took a running leap and crashed down onto the bed, enveloping myself in expensive silky smooth bedding. I could have easily crawled under the duvet and not moved until I had to check out, but I sensibly dragged myself up and took one last wander into the city, a …
