Sophistication at Polo Bar, The Westbury, Mafair

What Cocktails at Polo Bar Where Polo Bar Westbury Hotel 37 Conduit St London W1S 2YF The Experience My name is Euan Fraser and this is my first ever blog post. I was semi-bullied into it by the blog’s Editor Sarah Kemp, who is my other half. I moved to London a few weeks ago after meeting Sarah in Melbourne and am currently settling into life in the city, albeit with a sprained ankle, but I’ll save that story for another time. I hail from Auckland, New Zealand, so venturing into the Polo bar in the Westbury hotel in a part of London I know as Monopoly’s most expensive, was a little surreal for me and I now know why it’s the most expensive property. Upon entering I gazed upon a radiating gold bar, marble finishings, chairs that were close to being thrones and beautiful wooden finished walls. I wasn’t exactly dressed to the same standard as the rest of the patrons drinking and nibbling, but luckily I had a wee half pint pub crawl leading up to …

Made of Dough at Market Yard Kitchen

What Made of Dough will be serving their Neapolitan style pizza at Market Yard Kitchen until 15th May 2016. Where Mark Yard Kitchen in Shepherd’s Bush. Experience I somehow haven’t managed to make it down to Made of Dough in Pop Brixton, despite hearing great things about their pizza (winners of the 2015 London Pizza Festival, no less!), so I was pretty excited to head down to the opening of their six-week residency at Market Yard Kitchen. If anything was going to convince me to drag my sorry ass all the way from Hackney Wick to Shepherd’s Bush, then the promise of home made Neapolitan pizza and cocktails would more than do it. And we were not disappointed. Market Yard Kitchen have set up a dreamily lit and cosily heated outdoor space that is just perfect for these early spring nights when you want to eat outside because it’s actually light when you leave work but still, tediously, absolutely bloody freezing. The menu is short but effective, with five pizzas combining the thick yet blisteringly crisp Neapolitan …

A Cocktail Party in the City

What Cocktails in the City, where twenty of London’s most innovative cocktail bars throw a three day cocktail party! Where One Mayfair Experience I’ve heard amazing things about Cocktails in the city from people who went to their summer event last year. From what I’ve gathered, the idea is to round up as many of London’s top cocktail mixologists under one roof so that people like you and me can enjoy maximal amount of cocktails for minimal effort. What’s not to love about that? After a pretty long week at work and a sneaky lunch time google image search of the rather fancy One Mayfair where the event was being held, Joe and I were ready to go. The venue, formerly St Mark’s Church and now a Grade I listed building, was an impressive setting for some of the best cocktail makers in London, including Reverend JW Simpson, The Alchemist and City Social, who were joined this year by some equally innovative bars from Amsterdam and Paris. Split over four floors, the heated and fur …

Cocktails and Canapés at the Nine Elms Tavern

What The Nine Elms Tavern is a brand new modern and exciting new pub located right on the River Thames- tastefully decorated with a buzzing atmosphere, it makes for a perfect location to relax with friends and family. Where 372 Kennington Lane , London SW8 5AY (Right on the river and walking distance from Vauxhall) The Experience Upon entry of the launch for this brand new haunt on the river, we were presented with a goodie bag filled with drinks vouchers, showcase menus and even their very own house chilli oil (complete with recipe for the perfect crispy fried chicken accompaniment)- we knew it was going to be a good night. The Tavern, although newly refurbished, felt familiar and welcoming and all of the staff were delightfully friendly and greeted us incredibly warmly. Inside, the Tavern had been set up with various stations presenting a representation of the types of cocktails that will be on the menu. These included cocktails, wine, ales and beers. Giant, ice filled and beautifully orange Aperol Spritz and Bitter Lemon …

From Jamaica with Love

What Appleton Estate Jamaica Rum, one of the oldest rum distilleries in the world, launches a new product range and the ‘From Jamaica with Love’ campaign, with the aim of de-mystifying premium rum. Experience I had the pleasure of attending an Appleton Estate rum tasting with Richard Tring, former winner of the prestigious Appleton Estate bartender challenge. I like a dark ‘N’ stormy as much as the next girl, but I have to admit I am somewhat of a rum novice when it comes to premium rum. I arrived eager to learn. First for tasting was Appleton Estate Signature Blend. The Signature Blend is made up of a combination of several rums of different styles and ages. It had a golden amber appearance and tasted like a combination of citrus, peach and apricot. It was nice to sip, but would make the perfect accompaniment for a cocktail. Next up was Appleton Estate Rare Blend 12 Year Old. The rum is aged in Number One Select American Oak barrels and is aged to a minimum of …
