Known for welcoming guests into complete darkness, Dans le Noir? has just launched a brand new event, which gives guests the opportunity to shake their booty on the silent dancefloor. Fresh from success in Barcelona, the party will take place every Friday night, offering guests a unique opportunity to enjoy a silent dance floor with local and international DJs, paired with a chill-out in the pitch dark.

Euan and I rocked up to the venue on Friday night, glad rags on, all ready to show our best moves. Back in my early 20s I was too concerned about what everyone thought of me to dance even remotely sober, especially if there was no music involved. Age has made a world of difference and these days I’m not scared to show a move or two. So as soon as we stepped through the door I made a beeline for the headphones, popped them on my head and was away. I picked up a sign language booklet and spent the night dancing and attempting to communicate with fellow silent disco dancers. I also had a crack at ordering drinks from the bar staff with sign language – I’m not sure whether I was doing it right but they seemed to understand!

As well as a silent dancefloor, guests can enjoy time away from the dance floor with a drink in the venue’s Chill Out dark-room, and experience heightened conversation as sensory boundaries are broken.

The restaurant employs a total of ten blind or visually impaired guides. In the Chill Out room, attendees are invited to handover visual dependence to one of the restaurant’s guides and invest completely in their abilities, providing a unique sensory, social and human experience.

Entry to the evening is £19 per person, £15 as a prepaid voucher, or £9 for people dining in the restaurant. The price includes headphones for the evening, access to the dancefloor, two bars and the Chill Out dark room with relaxing music, plus one free drink or cocktail – including house wines and Champagne.
