Noilly Prat L’Apéritif Spring event at Cafe Pistou

Where Café Pistou, Exmouth Market What Noilly Prat L’Apéritif Spring event   Experience On a pretty spectacular spring evening (girl’s arrived), me and Stephen headed down to Café Pistou for the Noilly Prat L’Apéritif Spring event. The quaint and pretty brasserie lies at the gateway to Exmouth Market serving provençal inspired small plates throughout the day and, both giddy from leaving work early, we plonked ourselves like a pair of fat cats in the sunny terrace and grinned smugly. Noilly Prat is considered one of the world’s first and finest French vermouths, used widely in classic cocktails such as the dry martini; but we were here to  drink it the way the French do, as L’Apéritif served simply over ice with a twist of lemon. We felt refreshed and sophisticated and found the single globular ice cube particularly satisfying. Noilly Prat has been created and aged in the South of France for over 200 years using Picpoul and Clairette grape varietals that are aged in small oak casks exposed to the natural elements throughout all 4 …

A Tapas Revolution in Bethnal Green

Where Tapas Revolution, Shoreditch What Spanish tapas restaurant Experience Madrilenian chef Omar Allibhoy wants to bring authentic yet modern Spanish tapas to London, and he has an impressive CV! Having worked at former ‘Best Restaurant in the World’, El Bulli in Barcelona; Maze in Mayfair (Gorden Ramsay called him the ‘Antonio Banderas of cooking’); and El Pirata De Tapas in Notting Hill, he went on to start his own Tapas Revolution chain. Omar already has bars in Westfield and Bluewater shopping centers and has now finally opened a stand alone restaurant on Bethnal Green Road that I was invited to try out. Located in between Brick Lane and Box Park, the sleek interior retains the rustic and animated atmosphere you would expect in a classic Spanish tapas bar. The open kitchen and Jamón prep area face onto closely packed high seated tables, whilst a grand bar bathed in light from the chunky overhead copper lighting runs through the middle of the restaurant. Here staff serve an assortment of the most enormous and refreshing Gin and Tonics I …

Murakami

Where Murakami, St Martin’s Lane What Murakami is a beautifully designed Japanese restaurant and sushi bar situated on St Martin’s Lane. The restaurant serves dishes from the Robata Grill alongside classic cocktails with a Japanese twist and a selection of Japanese whiskies. Experience We were invited to the bloggers dinner at newly opened Murakami in the West End. I love all things Japanese, particularly the food, so I was excited to head down with my friend Tim to enjoy a selection of their best selling dishes. The restaurant is beautiful inside; its contemporary Eastern interior design is subtle and impeccable and despite being rather busy, the atmosphere was befittingly tranquil. Both the sushi and ragata bar were in eye line which made for impressive viewing and they wasted no time in sending over the food. We were paraded with a never ending selection of meats and fresh sushi plates – the shishito pepper and chilli beef kushiyaki off the Robatayaki menu was really really tasty as were the jalepino sushi rolls. Other dishes included: apple …

A Meaty Supper Club, by Meat Porter

What Meat Porter Supper Club at London City Island by Ballymore Experience Meat Porter is an online artisan butchers which sources and delivers great quality cuts of free-range British farmed meat to your door. It’s been done before but I have found most of these services expensive and inconvenient, with impractical minimum orders; but the ethos behind Meat Porter is much simpler. Founder Stefan Porter uses the same farmers who supply high quality meat to some of Britain’s best restaurants so that you can have a fine dining experience at home for a price that roughly equates to shopping at Tesco’s Finest or Waitrose. Minimum orders are £25, they deliver to pretty much anywhere in the UK for free and if you order before 3pm you will get it the next day. You can have it delivered to work and the meat keeps cool in the box for up to 30 hours. Sounds easy! Each box comes with some simple recipes based on the premise that the best meat requires only minimal seasoning and the …

Bourbon Masterclass with Buffalo Trace, TwoRuba

Where TwoRuba Bar & Lounge, Hilton London Tower Bridge What Tworuba is a plush bar and restaurant located on the ground floor of the Hilton Tower Bridge Hotel, serving a range of cocktails and creative small plates. From March, the bar will be hosting monthly whiskey tasting master classes in partnership with Kentucky distillery, Buffalo Trace. We were invited to a preview evening in lieu of the launch. Experience I headed straight from work to Tooley street and found my friend Dan, not waiting outside the Hilton Hotel as arranged, but downing an ale in the old man boozer over the road. We trotted over to The Hilton and were greeted at reception by a nice lady who showed us through to TwoRuba. The masterclasses are held in a private room just off the main bar that is decadent, cosy and more importantly, had glasses of bourbon everywhere! Dan looked confused and disappointed – he clearly thought that I was taking him biscuit tasting – but he soon cheered up when we were handed a …
