A Song and Dance at the Microsoft Apartment

Last week I attended a very exciting event at the Microsoft Apartment in Victoria – a panel discussion with music leaders from Deezer, the Music Managers’ Forum (MMF) and the Featured Artists’ Coalition (FAC), as well as Dave Rowntree from Blur and Nate James, who talked about how technology has changed the way he makes music before singing us a couple of songs to close the event. I seemed to be one of the only people in the room who didn’t work in the music industry, but that doesn’t mean I don’t have an interest in it. Believe it or not I moved to London 9 years ago with the intention of becoming a music journalist when I finished university. But life’s rich tapestry wove a different path for me and I never ended up fulfilling that dream. Fast forward years and I’m quite happy with being a consumer of music, rather than working in the industry. It is still incredibly important to me and the event really got me thinking about how much the …

Review: Windows Phone – Nokia 1020 #MSLoop

A couple of weeks ago a friend was over at my house. I received an email and was swiftly notified by not one, not two, but five devices. All around us, the room was either buzzing or singing notification tunes. She wondered why on earth I had so many gadgets and I told her it was because I love them. I could happily fill my room with 100 different gadgets and find a use for every single one of them. My nickname at school wasn’t gadget for nothing! As part of the Microsoft Loop programme, which I was invited to join at the tail end of 2013, I received a bright yellow Nokia 1020, which I have been using as my primary device ever since. I was also given a Nokia 920 last summer (read the review here), but this post is to explore the 1020, which has been affectionately named ‘Big Yellow’. As an advocate of Samsung devices, switching to the Windows phone was a big deal for me. The reason I didn’t stick …

Review: Microsoft Surface 2

I was about to embark on a trip to Melbourne when I got the memo that I was invited to join the Microsoft Loop membership program. As a bit of a tech lover (and, let’s face it, geek), I couldn’t take my mind off it all holiday. When I got to Melbourne, I saw my brother had the Surface 1 and asked him how he was getting on with it. He said he hated it. Not a good start. I had a little play and I couldn’t really see why. My brother (no offense, Matty boy) isn’t really the most tech savvy human being, though. He was, and still is, more into cars than the latest gadget. I, however, was in awe of technology from a young age. I blame my dad and his exciting stories. I’ll never forget being on a family holiday as a child and my dad predicting that one day I would be able to have a video call with my best friend. I was fascinated. Fast forward a good few …

MI1020 – Dining with Nokia Lumia 1020 and Windows Phone

A couple of weeks ago I was invited to the Microsoft house in Mayfair and provided with the new Nokia Lumia 1020 and Windows Surface 2 tablet. I will be writing a post about the devices in the New Year but alongside this I was also invited to MI1020, a clandestine culinary adventure created by Gingerline in partnership with the Nokia Lumia 1020 and Windows Phone. All ‘agents’ were asked to use their super-sleuth skills and the Nokia Lumia 1020’s 41mega-pixel camera to discover an evening of high-end food, art and performance. As an agent I have been sworn to secrecy but what I can say is you should check it out for yourselves. There are a limited number of places available for Saturday 14 and application closes at 23:59 today so be quick. To be in with a chance to attend this free spy themed event, daring diners should register their interest at http://www.gingerline.co.uk/MI1020 Good luck!

Nikon 1 J3 Review – Venice and Melbourne

I arrived back from Melbourne on Saturday morning at 7am. I dropped my bag off at home, had a quick shower and headed out to meet my friend for breakfast. As I was munching on my bircher muesli, she asked if I fancied going on a day trip and proceeded to say that Brighton was £10 return on the train. Woah woah woah, I thought. I felt good but not THAT good and I knew that jet lag would catch up on me soon enough. So we settled on Greenwich. We had an amazing day but as soon as the darkness set in, sure enough, I was on my way to sleepy town. I was asleep by 8pm and awake on Sunday morning at 5am. Gotta love jet lag. It’s not too annoying though as it has given me time to root through all of my pictures from Australia. Speaking of pictures, this post is the review the Nikon 1 J3. I borrowed this beauty of a camera from Nikon for my trips to Venice …
