Coin Laundry

What Laid back neighbourhood bar and restaurant, Coin Laundry, serves up proper comfort food, 70s revival cocktails and a big fat slice of nostalgia. Where 70 Exmouth Market London EC1R 4QP Experience Perched at the top of Exmouth Market sits 1970’s inspired restaurant, Coin Laundry. The restaurant boasts nostalgia-inducing culinary delights and retro classic cocktails. I met my friend Sophie on Saturday afternoon to give their new cocktail menu a whirl. “What do you mean 70’s? Like pineapple on a stick?” “Exactly, Soph”. I was expecting extravagant Retro Bar-themed decor, but was pleasantly surprised to find a spacious subterranean bar with subtle references to 70’s design. The room felt contemporary, less Bee Gees, more Rolling Stones. The cocktail menu was a joy to ponder. Apart from a few well known classics, the menu featured a host of real original flavour combinations I was excited to try. First up, some bubbles. The Flipper blends apple sorbet, prosecco and lemon in a wide champagne coupe with jelly accompaniments. Sophie and I agreed that we had never tasted …

Fairmont Launches New Cocktail Menu at The Savoy

Where The Savoy The Experience Last night Fairmont invited guests to sample their new global cocktail menu: Classics. Perfected.  at the suitably grand River Bar at the Savoy. For the first time, Fairmont has selected world-leading bartenders from across the globe to bring their individual talent and mastery of cocktail methodology to create a global cocktail menu. The all-star line-up includes Grant Sceney from Fairmont Pacific Rim, Nader Chabaane from Fairmont Le Château Frontenac, Erik Lorincz from The Savoy and Tom Hogan from Fairmont Singapore. As you can imagine, for this menu Jane Mackie is the president of the Fairmont Brand. She perfectly explained what the menu was trying to achieve and from reading the below quote and sampling last night cocktails, I believe they have achieved exactly what they were aiming for.   “When people “meet for a drink” at one of our hotels – from The American Bar at The Savoy to The Plaza in New York – they expect the crispest gin and tonic and a truly perfect Manhattan. With this new menu …

Innovation and Imagination with Rootdown

Where Rootdown, East London What New restaurant and bar Rootdown shares its innovative and imaginative menu with East London. Experience A few weeks ago I celebrated my day of birth by renting out a bar my friend had preached about relentlessly since moving to East London. I arrived at Rootdown early doors in order to greet my guests and sneaked a peak at the food menu – I was so impressed that I came back to try it with my old friend (and new house mate) Rachael. Rootdown may be one of many new restaurants popping up on Lower Clapton Road, but their seasonal menu and unpretentious style ensures it outshines their rivals. Rootdown takes food very seriously. Becca Scales said “Our ingredients are seasonal, locally sourced and largely organic”. Head Chef Ben Lourjane is a champion of vegetables. Their vegetarian dishes are always a hearty and competitive alternative to the meat options. I knew from my birthday party that Rootdown did a cracking cocktail, but my attentions were drawn to the chilli pear caprioska. …

5CC Exmouth Cocktail Crate

Where 5CC Club, Exmouth Arms, Exmouth Market What Food and drink hotspot Exmouth Market welcomes 5CC’s latest cocktail innovation, hidden above the recently renovated Exmouth Arms. Experience Summer is here and with it brings welcome sunshine to Londoners. The Exmouth Arms is a rare gem of a central London boozer – it offers outdoor seating to soak up all that vitamin D and a bespoke cocktail crate to wind down handcrafted cocktails from the 5CC bar upstairs to sun seekers below. Bar Manager Charles Montanaro told Food for Think “The aim of our designed crate is that we bring the cocktails to you”. I stood outside gazing up at the window eagerly awaiting my Chai Whiskey Sour.  “Number 8”, the cocktail waiter hollered from the window above while winding down the crate using the set-up pulley system. I made my way to the dropping station to pick up my spicy, refreshing cocktail. This is what summer is for. Sip your way through the menu and when the sun goes down head in to 5CC’s sexy …

Mega Friday Night Fun at Earlham Street Clubhouse

It’s Friday night and I’m meeting an old work colleague (and awesome friend) for dinner and drinks. Where to go? Should we opt for a nice restaurant with a laid back vibe, a cosy pub or even a nice bar? No. Let’s try something a bit different and tear it up at a Covent Garden pizza and cocktail bar. That’s exactly what we did last Friday. We were a little worried at first as we walked through the door, faced with music blaring out of the speakers and loud voices, but our fears about not being able to have our much needed catch up soon disappeared. Everything about Earlham Street Clubhouse screams fun, from the greeting by the doorman to the name of the pizzas and cocktails, the music and the extremely happy, cool and laid back waiters. By the time we had finished the last mouthful, the tables of people behind us were up dancing on the floor next to us. We thought it would be rude not to so as soon as we …
