Cleaning up at Wringer + Mangle, Hackney

What Dinner at Wringer + Mangle, HackneyWhere 13-18 Sidworth Street London E8 3SD Experience I didn’t realise it at the time of booking the dinner, but Wringer + Mangle was the first venue I visited after landing back in the UK following a year and a half hiatus from my beloved London. I turned up to my friend’s surprise birthday party horrendously jetlagged and struggled to sip on delicious cocktails from ridiculously big jugs. It’s all a bit hazy, but I remember hoping I would return when I was settled back to UK time. I had far less of a foggy head during my second attempt and last night was joined by a couple of good friends for dinner and drinks. As soon as I arrived, I recognised the outside seating area immediately and plodded past to enter the huge loft style dining room, which stretched as far as the eye could see. The space felt quiet for 7pm on a Thursday night and I hoped it would get busier as we walked towards our …

Platterform’s Sea Adventure Series – Maiden Voyage

The tail end of last week was very manic indeed. I spent Thursday night trying out the newest nightspot in Hackney, Oslo, which was just named as a top London nightspot by Evening Standard. Friday night was spent trying to dance, but failing miserably because of the lack of melody, at Queen of Hoxton; and Saturday was spent eating and drinking bright cocktails at Platterform. You may remember my review of Skylodge at Platterform, a Lumberjack themed bar/restaurant, which catered for Hackneyites in the colder winter months. This time, the same team is back, but with a new concept. Platterform’s Sea Adventures will run or 15 weeks with guest chefs taking up residency every 2-3 weeks. We were there to try Chapter 1, Maiden Voyage, which was a fun filled adventure, playing on the similarities between the British, Dutch and Scandinavian palate when it comes to enjoying seafood. We shared the four course menu, which featured ‘CUPPA SEA & BISCUITS’ – smoked haddock chowder in a mug served with dunkin’ ship’s biscuits, ‘THE PLANK’ – honey pickled …

Skylodge, London Fields

I love December. It’s almost Christmas and this time of year tends to get really fun with loads of events to keep the festive spirits high. Since I moved to Hackney, there have been a few interesting restaurant and pop ups. Skylodge is the newest one, situated at The Hothouse in London Fields. Skylodge offers winter warming cocktails and delicious food and is presented by Platterform. As I walked up the stairs, I wasn’t expecting such an incredible venue – an expansive lodge like structure overlooking the treetops of London Fields. We were sat at a heated booth and enjoyed a range of amazing small plates (Lumbersnacks as they are known at Skylodge), including Wolf Waffles with Mamma’s Pulled Pork, Mountain Cheese & Wild Mushroom Brioche and the signature Skylodge Sloppy Joes. We also thoroughly enjoyed ‘Hands-On-Gretel’ hot spiced cider and a few red wines. For those wanting a bit of winter fun over the next couple of months, head to Skylodge and you won’t be disappointed. A three course set dinner option plus welcome …
