Trader Vic’s, London Hilton Hotel

Where Trader Vic’s, London Hilton Hotel, Park Lane What Trader Vic’s is part of an international group of restaurants and home to the original Mai Thai rum based cocktail. As a celebration of 70 years of Trader Vic’s and 80 years of the Mai Thai cocktail, five Tiki films, shot on location at Trader Vic’s worldwide, have been made, showcasing bartenders from some of London’s popular Tiki bars who have recreated famous tiki cocktails including The 1944 Mai Tai. Experience My visit to Trader Vic’s a few weeks ago was my first, but it certainly won’t be my last. I loved the very  traditional island décor and felt like I was walking into a Polynesian wonderland. The extensive cocktail list is very impressive and whilst sitting in the Mai Tai Lounge my friend and I started to browse the comprehensive list, however with too many enticing tiki cocktails to choose from, we asked the waitress for some guidance. She enthusiastically recommended starting with the original 1944 Mai Tai, so with that we ordered two. Unsurprisingly …

The Four Thieves, Battersea

Where The Four Thieves, Battersea What The Four Thieves, part of The Laines Pub Company, has just opened on Lavender Hill in Battersea. With its own on site brewery and distillery making craft beer and Four Thieves gin this new site will have the perfect tipples to match head chef Hayden Smith’s menu. The Experience Upon entering the restaurant I have to say that my first reaction was surprise, closely followed by delight! The eclectic mix of décor; dim, warm lights and the quietly busy atmosphere made for the perfect location for a few after work drinks and dinner. We were shown to our table, beautifully set with a personalized white painted ‘reserved’ sign, and were soon handed a drinks menu with a choice of 80 different gins. The restaurant houses its very own drinks distillery and is soon to open its own mini brewery. They take massive pride in their choices of tipple, and we couldn’t wait to try. To start, we tried a festive saffron and orange gin cocktail and a clean, sweet …

Hotel La Tremoille, Paris

If it’s good enough for Gaga, it’s good enough for me. La TREMOILLE was just what we needed after a busy few days of wandering the city of Paris, dancing our feet off at Pitchfork festival and eating a glut of rich food. It’s everything you would expect from a boutique five star hotel in one of the most luxurious and romantic cities in the world. Exceptionally friendly and helpful staff, a bed fit for five kings, all the amenities you could possibly need, no less than a choice of six Moulton Brown shower gels, the softest bath robes and padded slippers, high ceilings and a balcony looking out onto the cobbled streets below. As I entered the room, the child in me was unleashed and I took a running leap and crashed down onto the bed, enveloping myself in expensive silky smooth bedding. I could have easily crawled under the duvet and not moved until I had to check out, but I sensibly dragged myself up and took one last wander into the city, a …

On the Bab, Shoreditch

Where On the Bab, Shoreditch What On the Bab is a Korean street food restaurant and takeaway. A place for casual dining where typical Korean drinks and popular dishes can be enjoyed together in a Korean tradition known as “anju”. The experience On one particularly raininy Sunday evening, I met my friend Joe at On the Bab. We were meant to be doing a tour of Chinatown on that day, but as plans sometimes do, it went a bit squiffy and we ended up having to choose an alternative venue. Enter On the Bab. It was Joe’s suggestion – he fancied Korean and neither of us had tried it, but had passed with intrigue a few times. “You know a good Korean restaurant when most of the clientele is Korean”, said Joe as I sat down in my seat. I agreed as I looked around and saw a restaurant full of smiling Koreans, all seemingly enjoying their dinner and soju cocktails. The menu is split into sections – Smalls Plates, On the Bab, Traditional, Korean …

Bloody Mary Pizza at Mayfair Pizza Co

Where The Mayfair Pizza Co, London What Mayfair Pizza Co is nestled in Lancashire Court, one of London’s most famous districts. The restaurant serves a range of Italian dishes, including a rustic pizzas, which have been created by Executive Chef Michael Lecouteur, formerly of Bird of Smithfield and Smiths of Smithfield. The experience The first time I stumbled upon the narrow streets of Lancashire Court, I was with scouring the Mayfair streets with fellow bloggers as part of a competition to win a place on a press trip to Hong Kong. As I literally ran through the streets of Mayfair, past thousands of fashion revelers enjoying the Vogue Fashion Night Out, a huge smile emerged across my face as I wound through the nooks and crannies of Lancashire Court. A few years later I was back, but this time to sample the Bloody Mary pizza at the Mayfair Pizza Co. Now, I’m a self confessed Bloody Mary hater; but before you go asking why on earth I would want to subject myself to it in …
