Mini gluten free lemon and polenta cakes

Judging by my Instagram and Facebook feeds, it looks like most of London has been out playing in the snow this weekend. Not me. I opted to observe the snowfall through the kitchen window whilst writing, planning furnishings for the flat, baking, cooking and looking for a few designs for a design project. I ended up using peach clipart and lemon clipart, which I thought were pretty cool. I also loved every minute of watching the winter wonderland that is the back garden. I found this recipe online but tweaked it slightly as I didn’t have enough ingredients to make a whole batch. I also added more lemon rind and juice because I love my cakes lemony. The bonus of this recipe is that it is also suitable for people with an intolerance to gluten. Mini lemon and pistachio cakes Serves 9 Ingredients Cake 100g ground almonds 50g desiccated coconut 125g course ground polenta 1 1/2 tsp baking soda 115g unsalted butter 65g golden caster sugar 2 large eggs Rind of two lemons Juice of …

Valrhona White and Lindt Chilli Chocolate Cupcake Recipe

It’s been a while since I posted a recipe on here! I haven’t done much baking of late and all cooking has been the usual recipes. I am on a mission to change that in 2013, though. I was recently asked if I would like to review a muffin tin from George Wilkinson Bakeware. I have a few muffin tins so nearly said no but stopped when I noticed that the tin in question was covered with GlideX, which eliminates the need for muffin cases. I don’t love muffin cases so I thought I would give it a go. I put it to the test literally a couple of hours after it landed on my doormat. I had a couple a bars of chocolate lying around so decided to put them to good use and make white and chilli chocolate chip muffins. I sprinkled some orange peel on top of half of them to add a bit of variation and I have to say, they turned out very nicely! White and Chilli Chocolate Muffin Recipe …

The House of Hemingway at Home, Earls Court

My boyfriend and his family are exhibiting at Home at Earls Court for the next few days so I have spent most of my weekend here, helping with the build up and enjoying the comfort of the new G Plan sofas, designed by my boyfriends sister, Tilly. I thought I would share a few pictures with you. There are lots of elements I would like to see in our new flat when we start to decorate. Head to Hemingway Design to see more of what they do best.

Afternoon Tea at Blakes

I wish I had known Anna, the seventh Duchess of Bedford, for she is (was) a lady after my own heart. If she hadn’t ordered tea, bread, butter and cake to her room in the late afternoon all those years ago in the 19th Century, we may not have the glorious delights of what has become Afternoon Tea today. As the story goes, Anna used to get so hungry during the afternoon hours and simply couldn’t wait until 9pm for dinner so ordered the sustinance to cure her hunger pangs. Fast forward 173 years and Afternoon Tea is a huge trade for the hotel and restaurant industry. All of the top hotels in London serve their own twist on the quintessentially British tradition. I have tried a fair few teas over the years, some good, other’s somewhat ‘interesting’, but I haven’t even made a dent on the number that I still have to experience. My mum was visiting for a couple of days before Christmas and she shares my love for cakes, dainty sandwiches and …

WIN two tickets to celebrate Nora Ephron at The Lexi on Sunday 27th January

Nora Ephron (When Harry Met Sally, Sleepless in Seattle, You’ve Got Mail), one of the greats of the film and comedy world, sadly passed away last year. Her best films became cultural moments, with characters, scenes and lines that live far beyond the films themselves. From 24th-27th January, The Loco Film Festival is focusing on women in comedy and has teamed up with The Lexi Cinema for a special tribute to Nora. The Ephrathon, on Sunday 27th January, will showcase three of her best-loved films, one from each era of her career: Heartburn (starring Meryl Streep and Jack Nicholson), Sleepless in Seattle and her award-winning final film Julie and Julia, which stars Streep alongside Amy Adams and Stanley Tucci. Guests can also take part in a fruit pie competition, which will be judged by Sophie Grey of Crazy Baker. The winner will receive a signed copy of Sophie’s book ‘Let’s Make Whoopies’ and a year-long membership for The Lexi Cinema. Food for Think is giving you the chance to WIN two tickets to the event …
