Calor’s Grill-2-Go Portable BBQ

A couple of weeks ago a very exciting product landed on my doorstep. Calor’s Grill-2-Go was sold to me as the perfect portable BBQ, perfect for those that love cooking in the great outdoors whether at home or away. So one sunny evening, we took it onto the roof and cooked home made lamb burgers and I was very impressed with the results! The BBQ itself is not light so it isn’t easily transportable by hand but it’s the perfect size to sling into the car and head to the countryside for an evening in the sunshine. I have a soft spot for Calor. Why? Because it reminds me of summers as a child spent in the garden with my family, my dad BBQing a delicious feast for the family. His BBQ was considerably larger but the results from the Grill-2-Go are the same. I am so impressed and happy that I can enjoy an amazing BBQ from the comfort of my roof. Now all we need is a bit of sunshine to enable me …

Portlebay Popcorn – Gluten Free Snack

I’ve been off gluten again for a week now. I had one blip over the weekend where I ate a few pieces of popcorn that contained gluten but apart from that I have found it incredibly easy – I’m not missing bread in the slightest and I have found meals and snacking a total breeze. Snacking, in part, because of a couple of products that were sent across to me. One of those products is Portlebay’s Kracklecorn. I received a box of the whole range (Applewood Smoked Cheddar, The Classic, Wasabi & Sweet Ginger, Chilli & Lime and Crispy Bacon & Maple Syrup) just before last weekend and by Monday they had nearly all gone! I was slightly dubious about some of the flavours – before last week I had never really ventured too far away from salty and sweet and salty, but every single flavour surprised and delighted me. My favourite was crispy bacon and maple syrup, a flavour combination that I only discovered on pancake day at The Breakfast Club and one that …

The Nutribox

A couple of weeks ago I declared my love for Nakd and Trek bars. The next day an email landed in my inbox from a chap called Peter from a company called The Nutribox asking if I would like to try a Nutribox-mini. The email couldn’t have come at a better time as I had just decided to start a gluten free diet again, following on from the three months last year that I spent gluten free. The Nutribox team are a bunch of foodies and nutritionists based in Sheffield who have set up The Nutribox as an online, healthy snacks business with the mission of making it easier for people to eat more healthily. All snacks included in the box are nutritionally dense, tasty and made from gluten-free ingredients, sourced typically from small artisan producers. My box arrived quickly through the post and I was pleasantly surprised by the wide range of treats neatly lined up next to each other. Raw bars, cookies, nuts, mixed seeds and even a raw chocolate bar. I tucked …

Gluten Free Snacking – Metcalfe’s skinny topcorn

Last summer I went gluten free for three months. I took an intolerance test from YorkTest and it came back with my worst nightmare – I shouldn’t consume too much dairy, almonds or egg white and I should cut out gluten completely. To be honest I never thought I’d last three months but I did. And despite my reservations it wasn’t that hard. I crumpled towards the end of last year when I went on holiday to Barcelona but from today I will be going gluten free again. One snack that I don’t have to say goodbye to is popcorn. I was sent a bag of the newest flavour from Metcalfe’s skinny topcorn a couple of weeks ago and I think I have found my new favourite flavour – Sweet Cinnamon Spice. I love it because it satisfies my sweet tooth and the bonus is that it comes in at only 117 calories. Metcalfe’s skinny topcorn Sweet Cinnamon Spice is exclusively available at Waitrose.

Trek and Nakd Bars – product review

Every so often I go through a healthy phase where I’m slightly more careful with what I eat. I’m never giving up cake, chocolate or pizza, right? And as well as eating, this phase also involves a couple of trips a week to the gym. But it never lasts long and usually everything comes crashing down after a few weeks. This time, however, I have to admit that I’m not doing too badly. My exercising is averaging out at around four times a week and according to the fancy machines at the gym, I have lost a few % in body fat since I started. Not bad without changing my diet. I know exactly what to eat should be I wanted to become honed and toned like Gwyneth Paltrow. Pain au chocolat’s and full fat coffees certainly shouldn’t be a part of my diet. But they are and what’s more, they’re staying. My post workout choices aren’t always the best either. Wembley’s version of Nando’s does a great chicken, chips and nan bread combo that …
