London House – Battersea

What Battersea neighbourhood favourite London House showcases its new look, new bar and new menu. Where London House 7-9 Battersea Square Battersea Village London SW11 3RA Experience I had the opportunity to visit modern British cuisine restaurant London House, part of the Gordon Ramsay Group. As soon as I entered I was greeted with relaxed decor and a friendly waiters smile. I sipped a glass of sweet Clementine Daiquiri in the bar while admiring the fireplace and slow slung tables where locals sat with glasses of red, picking at light bites from the kitchen. My friend arrived to meet me so we took a wander outside to enjoy the new sun soaked – ready for summer – terrace for a while. None other than Gordon Ramsey himself was perched at the bar when we took our seat at the table. He seemed at home chatting to the locals before disappearing out of my vision. The reigns in the London House kitchen have been handed over to new head chef George Lyons who has ingeniously created …

Beer and Pizza at Zero Degrees

Where Zero Degrees, Blackheath What Zero Degrees is the first of a line of five family run restaurants with onsite microbreweries. Experience On the corner of Blackheath park is Zero Degrees, Blackheath’s only Microbrewery and from some serious research, has a great reputation as a restaurant that specialises in Mussels and Pizza. Since opening in 2000, Zero degrees has continued to grow across the south with the enthusiasm of the family of ale lovers that are behind it. The beauty of it is the beer is brewed on site and right in front of the customers eyes, so needless to say; it tastes good. We started with a mango beer and a pale ale and quickly moved through to the restaurant to start eating. Both Jack and I had googled the menu, and seemed there was no reason to deprive ourselves for any longer. As discussed the night previously, we decided it was essential to try all the starters they had on offer (a slight exaggeration, but not by far). My favourite was hard to …

Silent Dancing at Dans le Noir?

What Our Dans le Noir?: Otra Vista Social Club Silent Dancefloor Experience Where 30-31 Clerkenwell Green London EC1R 0DU Experience Known for welcoming guests into complete darkness, Dans le Noir? has just launched a brand new event, which gives guests the opportunity to shake their booty on the silent dancefloor. Fresh from success in Barcelona, the party will take place every Friday night, offering guests a unique opportunity to enjoy a silent dance floor with local and international DJs, paired with a chill-out in the pitch dark. Euan and I rocked up to the venue on Friday night, glad rags on, all ready to show our best moves. Back in my early 20s I was too concerned about what everyone thought of me to dance even remotely sober, especially if there was no music involved. Age has made a world of difference and these days I’m not scared to show a move or two. So as soon as we stepped through the door I made a beeline for the headphones, popped them on my head …

Modern Japanese at Kiru, Chelsea

What Modern Japanese at Kiru, Chelsea Where 2 Elystan St Chelsea London SW3 3NS Experience Back in 2014 when I decided to quit London and take a chance on travelling the world, Japan was at the top of my list, mostly so that I could take a wadge of money and throw it at restaurant owners who wanted to feed me all the Japanese goods. I really thought I would be able to go anywhere in the world I wanted. I didn’t really think about the limitations – would I have enough money to fly? Would I be able to afford accommodation? Looking back, definitely not for all the things I wanted to do. The reality of travelling, for me anyway was that I felt a crippling emptiness for over a year, a feeling that led to me cutting my trip short by three months. I cracked when I was in Cambodia and a few days later was on a plane to London, catapulting myself back into the fiercely fast paced London life. I never …

Salad Days Lunch Delivery

What Salad Days office-delivered lunches make you feel nourished and ready to take on the afternoon. Providing tasty balanced food to London work places 7 days a week, from team meetings to office events, they have you covered. Where Order from Salad Days Website Experience At the start of the working week I have the best intentions to prepare fancy, healthy lunches to take to work, but it hardly ever materialises. Instead, I pop out to the same places, all within a 100 metre radius from the office. When I saw the Salad Days menu online, I scoured the photographs with sheer excitement. Of course Salad Days sell salads, but also wraps, fruit boxes, dips, platters, breakfast and (my favourite) pudding. Hand delivered to my office door was a box of Salad Days’ finest Marinaded Grilled Halloumi. I opened the box to find it filled with grilled slices of succulent halloumi, roasted butternut squash, rainbow slaw, rocket, sumac and bulgar wheat. I squeezed the accompanying lemon wedge, drizzled the house vinaigrette over everything and tucked …
