Friday Night Takeaway with JUST EAT

If you are familiar with my blog, Twitter or Instagram profiles, you will know that I eat out a lot – so much so that I’m slightly worried I might be developing a bit of a problem. Over the weekend I visited not one but seven eating establishments. SEVEN! I do have an excuse, though – my mum was in town for a couple of days and her being a fellow foodie and all, there was a lot to show her. As much as I love eating out, it’s nice to stay in once in a while. Usually when I stay in I’ll cook, but a couple of weeks ago I was asked to try takeaway ordering from JUST EAT, the world’s leading online takeaway ordering service, which allows you to order in real-time from your local independent takeaway restaurant. It was a Friday evening when I decided to try JUST EAT. My friend was coming around to view a spare room in my house and I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to catch …

Sashimi Pizza at Gilgamesh, Camden

I get excited about food. But it’s only every so often that I get REALLY excited by a dish. A couple of weeks ago I was invited to try the new dishes at Gilgamesh, including a dish that really intrigued me, sashimi pizza. So me and Gabriela made our way to Camden on a hot September evening to try the dishes and for the first time in 8 years in London I walked up the inconspicuous escalator instead of past it for once. Pizza is my favourite food (I’m not ashamed to admit it) and sashimi is also right up there. I’ve had moments where I have been completely addicted to sashimi and I’ll go to great lengths to get hold of it. But I had never heard of sticking the two together before and I wasn’t totally sure whether it would actually work. Gilgamesh is a restaurant renowned for the amazing Pan-Asian cuisine and Executive Chef Ian Pengelley wanted to take it to the next level by combining flavours of the East with a …

Clockjack Oven, Soho

I bloomin love chicken. A couple of years ago I never thought I’d say this, but, I might even go so far as saying that chicken is my favourite meat and over the last year or so, I have trawled London to eat lots of the stuff. Last week my friend Kim and I visited Clockjack Oven in Soho to feast on chicken. And lots of it. The restaurant’s website states that customers will have ‘The best tasting and most succulent, lovingly prepared rotisserie experience.’ and I have to say, I think I agree. We wanted to try a few bits so shared 4 pieces of chicken, chicken bites, the Clockjack Oven chicken burger, plus a portion of chips and a tomato, red onion and basil salad. The waiter arrived and filled our table with dishes. There was a lot to eat. But we did it. And we enjoyed it all with a range of Clockjack Oven homemade sauces – ranch, chilli and barbeque. I had a chicken burger last Friday at Rotary, a pop …

Tamarind, Mayfair

After living in London for 8 years,  I have finally gone and bought myself a bike. Well, I bought myself a beautiful new bike and used it for 3 days before it broke. So for the last 2 weeks I have been racing around the city the bike of the guy that sold it to me while he fixes it. And it seems I have a few things to learn. Mainly how to actually ride it on London streets. Last night I was on my way to Tamarind in Mayfair when I not only cut up a rollerblader (who rollerblades in Central London in the dark anyway?!) and clipped his boot as he was whizzing by, but dropped my bike (and fell with it) onto the street and almost onto a Porsche, right outside the Michelin starred restaurant I was visiting. Luckily no one saw me and I managed to hide my helmet in my bag before venturing into the restaurant and being greeted by the reception staff. I was taken downstairs to my table …

Central & Co, Soho

Tell me your favourite hangover cure. Mine? A good quality, well cooked piece of meat, plus everything else my friend and I tucked into yesterday at Central & Co, a new all-day Brasserie and Bar in the heart of the West End. After cycling into Soho from Hackney Wick, we parked up the bikes and headed for our table, which looked straight out onto one of the world’s most famous shopping streets, Carnaby Street. We ordered some olives and a bread board to start, along with an Aperol Spritz to quench our thirst and perused the menu, which was separated into ‘Brunch’, ‘Small Plates’, ‘Large Plates’ and ‘Sides’. We opted for the Flank Steak main with chips, watercress and roasted tomato but decided to share a Duck Egg Scotch Egg, Slaw and Seasonal Greens as well. After munching on a load of delicious bread, the food arrived at the same time and filled our table. Lucy winced as she saw how much there was in front of us but then quickly followed with a smile. …
