#NewTradition #6 – Andy Murray’s Gluten Free Diet

“Quality of life begins with the quality of food that sustains it.” It recently emerged that Andy Murray had followed his Serbian friend/rival Novak Djokovic by giving up the evil gluten, claiming that it had enhanced his performance. I believe him. I gave up gluten for 3 months last year (and have been on the diet again for the last 4 weeks) and it has improved my performance too. I am running a minute a mile quicker than I was this time last year and I don’t feel as sluggish, which used to stop me from wanting to work out. I am training for a half marathon at the end of October and the London Marathon next year and I know that by eliminating gluten out of my diet, I will perform better. Right now I am sat on the 5th floor in Harrods, sipping a frothy cappuccino, topped with a beautiful latte art leaf, admiring the beautiful staff and classy customers enjoying their Italian treats at the Lavazza café in Harrods. On my right …

#NewTradition #5 – Chocolate Orange Biscotti with Mocha Dipping Sauce

A Modo Mio – My Way Last night I attended a fantastic master class, held by Lavazza, at the Cambridge Satchel Company pop-up store in Covent Garden. As well as meeting some of the (lovely!) competition, we were treated to a session learning not only how to make our own cafe standard coffee, but also some quick, easy and delicious coffee based sweet treats, including one monster containing Nutella, Lavazza espresso, whipped cream and chopped nuts – WOW! I was extremely impressed with the result of my milk frothing and cannot WAIT to be able to make this standard of coffee from the comfort of my own home. As well as attending the master class, I also took some home made biscotti and mocha dipping sauce into work yesterday. I think I have been keeping my workmates happy over the last few days. So far I have kept them entertained with my Popping Candy Lavazza Espresso Chocolate Truffles and they have also had the bonus of enjoying biscotti with their afternoon cup of coffee. I …

Windows Phone – My Nokia Lumia 920 Windows Phone

A few weeks ago an invite popped into my inbox inviting me to an event to showcase the new Nokia Lumia 920 Windows Phone and I couldn’t believe my luck. A group of bloggers were to meet at the Soho Hotel to collect a handset before being treated to a demonstration by award winning photographer, Laurie Fletcher. We would then be heading to Jason Atherton’s newest venture, Social Eating House, for dinner to test out the camera on the phone and to see how fantastic it performs in low lighting settings. Anyone who knows me really well will know that I am a real technology geek at heart. I get WAY more excited about a new phone or gadget than a new pair of shoes or a handbag, so I was excited at the prospect of being able to play around with the new Nokia Windows Phone first hand. I had to admit to the PR that I took the plunge and swapped from the iphone to Samsung a year ago and have been very …

#NewTradition #4 – Lavazza Espresso Chocolate Truffles

Day four at Wimbledon. The grass courts are starting to look a little worn but the players look bright eyed and bushy tailed. The crowds are anticipating the start of the next match between Food for Think and her opponent. There are a few umbrellas lurking as we are in for a sprinkling of rain today. Let’s hope it doesn’t cause too much disruption. The players step onto the court, the ball boys and girls run into position. The opponent to serve. Food for Think squats into position, bouncing from side to side, swivelling the racket between her hands. The opponent serves and Food for Think reacts quickly and hits the ball cross court to start the rally. Coffee and chocolate is an old tradition. The flavours compliment each other so well and there are thousands of variations on this pairing but I thought I would add my own twist when creating these truffles. I stumbled upon a pot of popping candy on the baking isle at the supermarket and it took me back to …

#NewTradition #3 – Espresso Frozen Yoghurt with Caramelised Almonds

It’s not all about the strawberries and cream Tradition #3 – Frozen Yoghurt I think the biggest and most recognised tradition at Wimbledon is the strawberries and cream. It’s the first thing most people think of when I ask them, and judging by the entries on my Food for Think Lavazza Wimbledon Ballot competition, most of the entrants do too. But it’s not all strawberries and cream at Wimbledon it seems. I did a little research at the weekend and apparently in 2009, 20,000 portions of frozen yoghurt were sold during the tournament. So I thought I would put my Lazavva A Modo Mio to the test and make some espresso frozen yoghurt of my own. I also decided to toast and caramelise a few almonds and crush them on top, since almond pairs so well with coffee. This recipe is really simple, especially if you have an ice cream churner. I would love to see this treat on the menu at Wimbledon – refreshing frozen yoghurt with the welcome caffeine hit and the delicious …
