Tapas Revolution, Westfield

One Thursday evening in February Jack and I descended on Westfield in Shepherd’s Bush to sample a few dishes from the menu at Tapas Revolution. I have to admit that I had never heard of the restaurant before the invite popped into my inbox but I was curious as the words ‘Meet the man dubbed as ‘The Antonio Banderas of cooking’ by Gordon Ramsay’ jumped out at me from the evite. After a little difficulty negotiating our way around the huge shopping center, we came to the stand alone restaurant, situated just outside the ever popular Jack Wills store. Had we been dining at the weekend, we would be sure to have seen queues of eager teenagers waiting for their chance to enter the store. But it was a Thursday evening and the shopping center was less busy and I was glad about it. Founder Omar Allibhoy himself was there to greet us and talk us through the dishes that we were to taste that evening and we spent a couple of hours devouring (nearly) …

Lemon and Rosemary Drizzle Cake Recipe

“You ran from Webmley?!”, exclaimed the friendly apron clad woman. Yes, we replied, seeing full well that she thought we were crackers. We had risen at 8.30am on a Saturday morning and ran through the windy sleet and snow to view a couple of marble tops that were listed on eBay not too far from where we live. Jack had forced me into my running gear and I plodded along the street behind him feeling a serious bout of misery coming on. It’s late March and barely above freezing. We had planned to frolick with friends this weekend but the weather is putting a stop to our will to venture out of our comfort zone. We arrived home and I was thoroughly miserable. We cooked a delicious breakfast of eggs poached in tomatoes, which brightened up my mood slightly but it wasn’t until I stumbled upon a magical video by Nigel Slater that my day really started to kick into gear. I watched Nigel, sat on the floor with my back against the radiator, mouth …

Healthy sweets, cereal and calming tea

This post is dedicated to three products that have ticked my taste buds recently. You only need to have seen a few posts on this blog to know that I have an incredibly sweet tooth. But as much as I would love to sit and eat copius amounts of sweets on a daily basis, I am fully aware of the negative effects of sugar. So when the information from Bittersweet came through recently it caught my attention for more than one reason. Firstly, the packaging is pretty and secondly, the large range of sweets is 100% sugar free. I was intrigued to see if Bittersweet has managed to create a range of sweets that taste as good as they look and can still satisfy my sweet tooth. I tried the Ripe Pear Drops, Fluffy Marshmallows and Cherries. I popped a pear drop into my mouth and for the first second I could tell the difference but all of a sudden I thought I was sucking on the real thing. The fluffy marshmallow was also very …

BRGR.CO, Soho

Last night I visited BRGR.CO in Soho. I knew the name rang a bell but I couldn’t think why but it all became apparent as it came into view as I walked up Wardour Street. BRGR.CO used to be a Jerk Chicken restaurant, famous for being one of Amy Winehouse’s favourite Jamaican restaurants in London. I even visited last year, although I wasn’t overly impressed and there were hardly any other diners joining us, despite it being a Friday evening. This time I visited on a Thursday and BRGR.CO was packed to the rafters. I was with two others and we snagged a table in the back room. I don’t usually read other people’s reviews before I go and try out a restaurant but on this particular occasion I couldn’t resist. I read a review by a well known London food blogger and as a result didn’t have high hopes – this blogger hadn’t exactly been complimentary about the restaurant and compared it to a plethora of burger joints that have opened in the capital …

Fere & Co Facial

A couple of months ago I visited Fere & Co in Knightsbridge for a facial. Fere’s salon is situated above Neville & Co hair salon and after climbing up the narrow stairs to the top of the building, I was greeted by Fere who showed me into her treatment room. She left while I prepared for my facial by stripping off and getting into bed. I say ‘into bed’ because it was the most comfortable treatment bed I had ever come across. I settled onto the confortable mattress and pulled a thick duvet up on top of me and I’m quite sure that if Fere hadn’t have returned a few minutes later, I would have nodded off. Fere, who has been giving facials for 32 years, arrived back in the room and started by cleansing, toning and analysing my skin, which was followed by an exfoliation scrub, steam and extraction. I relaxed further into the bed and Fere and I chatted about life, food and my blog. The extraction was followed by High Frequency, which …
