Rejuvenation Facial at Suedey Salon

Hands up, who suffers from adult acne?! I hear ya. I made it through 33 years of my life without ever having more than one stubborn little red screaming tyke on my face at any one time. But during lockdown, one tyke multiplied and asked its friends over to the party. And party they did, completely disregarding any kind of social distancing rules. I spent hours trying to figure out what was causing my skin to have erupted, like a dormant volcano that had come to life after 100s of years. And I feel embarrassed to admit this, but I wonder whether anyone has been as naive as me, not to realise that the hormone I had been pumping my body with for so many years, was preventing these little mountains of hell from springing up whenever they bloody well want. I stopped taking the pill in October and was blissfully unaware for around 6 months of what was in store. I had been taking the combined pill since I was 16 but switched to …

Coresport – The best exercise shirt in the world?

Have you ever attempted to do a cardio workout in a cotton t-shirt? If you have, I’m pretty sure you’ll have winced just reading that sentence. The claggy (good word, right) sweat that literally clings to your body as you attempt to writhe out of the shirt is something to behold. Or not… I learned the hard way when I was relatively new to running. I went out on what I thought was going to be an innocent jog in the sunshine, but half way through – and when I say halfway I mean about 500m – the shirt started to stick to me in places nothing should ever stick to. I was a sweaty mess and my t-shirt just wasn’t giving me the benefit of the doubt. Fast forward a few years and I’d like to think I’ve learnt a thing or two about appropriate training gear. So when I was asked if I wanted to review a top that claims to be the ‘world’s best workout shirt’, which apparently cools you down the …

Reunited with Headmasters, Mayfair

Moving away from home is hard for many reasons. The hardest thing for me was missing my friends and family and a single day didn’t pass without wondering what they were doing, wishing I was there with them, laughing at their jokes and attempting to make them laugh with my nerdy jokes. Before As well as missing the usual things like tea bags, English chocolate and the BBC, I also really missed my regular hairdressing salon, Headmasters. After a couple of visits to the Biba Academy in Melbourne, I decided to leave my hair to do it’s thing while I travelled and pay Headmasters a visit when I eventually arrived in London. I cut my trip down by two months and arrived in London a few days ago. Jet lagged, I ventured into central London and walked into Headmasters Mayfair feeling like I had never even been away. I started off with a much needed complimentary coffee and Pervin made her way over to me for a quick Colour Theory Consultation, a new service to …

An Interview with Sian Quinn – Headmasters

1) What is your earliest hair memory? My earliest hair memory was playing with hair mascaras and braiding. Being the only girl in the family with three brothers, my mum always played around with different styles on my hair so I learnt how to braid really early and it’s still one of my favorite things to do. 2) How old were you when you decided to become a hairdresser? I knew I wanted to be a hairdresser from my early teens. Going to the salon was the biggest treat and watching the stylists create glamour in a 45 minute appointment amazed me. 3) How did you start in the profession? My career started at 16. I started studying at 6th form but I was desperate to leave and get into the salon and any spare time I had I’d research session stylists. I was following the work of Zoe Irwin who was working at Headmasters at the time and was really inspired. I joined the Headmasters apprenticeship program, which allowed me to work and learn …

Running in Heels Review: La Clairière, Alsace

This was originally posted on Running in Heels following a press stay at La Clairière in Alsace. Even in the dim evening light, the quaint villages between Strasbourg and eco spa hotel La Clairière are a fairytale feast of delicate gabled roofs and charming crooked cottages. Further on, as you speed  through dark forests, the impression grows stronger until, suddenly, La Clairière looms up out of the foliage like Rapunzel’s tower. I, however, had not come to eat enchanted gingerbread or drink magical wine – or indeed, anything approaching either of those at all. Instead, I was here for a detox programme, one of the many wellness programs offered by the Alsace-based spa hotel. Three days, scores of treatments, four-course detox lunches and dinners and unlimited use of the spa – I was ready to go. First though, I headed upstairs to check out my room, which was far more traditional than the brightly coloured communal seating area downstairs and equipped with twin beds, a living space with a sofa, two balconies, a TV, mini bar and kettle with …
