Reunited with Headmasters, Mayfair

Moving away from home is hard for many reasons. The hardest thing for me was missing my friends and family and a single day didn’t pass without wondering what they were doing, wishing I was there with them, laughing at their jokes and attempting to make them laugh with my nerdy jokes. Before As well as missing the usual things like tea bags, English chocolate and the BBC, I also really missed my regular hairdressing salon, Headmasters. After a couple of visits to the Biba Academy in Melbourne, I decided to leave my hair to do it’s thing while I travelled and pay Headmasters a visit when I eventually arrived in London. I cut my trip down by two months and arrived in London a few days ago. Jet lagged, I ventured into central London and walked into Headmasters Mayfair feeling like I had never even been away. I started off with a much needed complimentary coffee and Pervin made her way over to me for a quick Colour Theory Consultation, a new service to …

An Interview with Sian Quinn – Headmasters

1) What is your earliest hair memory? My earliest hair memory was playing with hair mascaras and braiding. Being the only girl in the family with three brothers, my mum always played around with different styles on my hair so I learnt how to braid really early and it’s still one of my favorite things to do. 2) How old were you when you decided to become a hairdresser? I knew I wanted to be a hairdresser from my early teens. Going to the salon was the biggest treat and watching the stylists create glamour in a 45 minute appointment amazed me. 3) How did you start in the profession? My career started at 16. I started studying at 6th form but I was desperate to leave and get into the salon and any spare time I had I’d research session stylists. I was following the work of Zoe Irwin who was working at Headmasters at the time and was really inspired. I joined the Headmasters apprenticeship program, which allowed me to work and learn …

Headmasters Blow Dry Review – 90’s Style

Hot… And Not Bothered, as it was affectionately known, was a Brit Pop, garage and cheesy pop fun filled extravaganza held at Biddle Bros in Clapton. It was my first 90’s club night, a resounding success and we’re looking forward to planning the next evening. It wouldn’t have been a 90’s night without the fashion to go with it. My friends Lex and Olivia rocked the best 90’s looks and I wore a black mini dress but jazzed it up with a new ‘do’ by James at Headmasters in Mayfair, who refreshed the colour and gave me a 90’s inspired blow dry from the new blow dry menu. Before: I usually go for a polished blow dry with bouncy waves but considering I was hosting a 90’s night, James suggested we go for a crimped look. I agreed and he set to work. How did he do it? He rough dried my hair, separated it and plaited sections. He then got a pair of straighteners and straightened each plait a few times over. Following this, …

Semi Permanent and Super Fine Baby Lights at Headmasters

After a tumultuous couple of months, I knew that a fail safe way to cheer myself up was a trip to the salon. A few Tuesdays ago was a particularly bad day but I had a Headmasters appointment after work to look forward to. And boy did it cheer me up. Before: I was there to see James who gave me lighter coloured hair than I have had in years. Still ginger, yes, but he ran some amazing super fine baby lights through the colour and only partially topped up the red colour – so I was left with a very light red colour and beautiful highlights that shimmer in the sunlight. I felt very sorry for the colourist next door to me who was dealing with a woman that I recognized from somewhere. She was being so difficult and asking so many questions that I was convinced she was a mystery shopper. James was half way through my head before she had even finished her consultation and I was so impressed with how the …

A Colourful Afternoon at Headmasters

I honestly believe one of the best feelings in life is walking out of the hairdressers after a long and relaxing appointment, hair glowing, bouncing from side to side, full of body, a la Jennifer Aniston from those infamous L’Oreal adverts. The last time I visited Headmasters in Mayfair was no exception. I had just enjoyed three hours with Siobhan, Colour Director, who took her time to make sure that I was going to walk out with near perfect locks. Siobhan analysed my hair and we chose a semi permanent red but I had a surprise in store. She wanted to use foil hilights to colour a few strands in order to make the colour look as natural as possible. From what I remember I have only ever had foil highlights once in my life so this was an extra added treat for me. Not only did I have highlights but Siobhan also used Micro Wand treatment before washing the colour out, a unique technique using an ultra fine hair colouring wand to delicately place …
