Peters & Co. Gin Palace at F Cooke, Broadway Market

It has been five months since I moved to Hackney and I am finally feeling like I have settled in to the area. The last couple of weekends have been spent in the area, exploring and sampling the delights of local eating and drinking establishments. I have enjoyed cake at Violet, coffee at The Hackney Bureau, brunch at The Empress, a movie at The Hackney Picturehouse and even the pantomime at The Hackney Empire. I met my friend this afternoon and we went to watch a movie. Afterwards, we popped by Skylodge for a mulled cider before enjoying a Turkish dinner on Broadway Market. As we walked back towards home, my friend suggested we pop in to F Cooke after seeing an a board outside promoting ‘Peters @ Co. Gin Palace‘. Not ones to pass up an opportunity to sample a delicious gin based cocktail, we ventured in. I have walked past F Cooke too many times to tell but have never been in. It is a London institution, serving eels and pie and mash. …

Supper Club at The House of Peroni

You may remember reading about my trip to The House of Peroni over the summer? After thoroughly enjoying innovative cocktails made with Peroni and small plates devised by Michelin Star holding Costardi Brothers, I was very pleased to be asked back to the November stint, which was held in the same grand central London townhouse. The House of Peroni was open to showcase the new wave of Italian style and creativity. The space, designed by award-winning architect and co-designer of the Enzi Ferrari museum, Andrea Margate, was a place where guests could discover fashion installations, a luxurious cinema space, a restaurant and a soundtrack developed by 25 exciting young Italian producers and DJs. I was there to try the Italian Supperclub, which would showcase old and new Italy with a four course menu. We enjoyed classic and modern takes on Burrito, Nduja and Herring Eggs, Casio E Pope (black pepper pasta), Rana Pescatrice Alla Sicilian and Polenta Cake. These traditional dishes are right up my street and it was interesting to see these along with …

Skylodge, London Fields

I love December. It’s almost Christmas and this time of year tends to get really fun with loads of events to keep the festive spirits high. Since I moved to Hackney, there have been a few interesting restaurant and pop ups. Skylodge is the newest one, situated at The Hothouse in London Fields. Skylodge offers winter warming cocktails and delicious food and is presented by Platterform. As I walked up the stairs, I wasn’t expecting such an incredible venue – an expansive lodge like structure overlooking the treetops of London Fields. We were sat at a heated booth and enjoyed a range of amazing small plates (Lumbersnacks as they are known at Skylodge), including Wolf Waffles with Mamma’s Pulled Pork, Mountain Cheese & Wild Mushroom Brioche and the signature Skylodge Sloppy Joes. We also thoroughly enjoyed ‘Hands-On-Gretel’ hot spiced cider and a few red wines. For those wanting a bit of winter fun over the next couple of months, head to Skylodge and you won’t be disappointed. A three course set dinner option plus welcome …

L’Eto, King’s Road

Jet lag is horrible. But I have come to learn that the only way to deal with it is to plough through. I may have taken it a little too far last weekend though when I decided to cycle all the way to Chelsea for brunch. It was an interesting journey there for sure but my return was much better. I cycled through Green Park and all the way along the embankment past a fair few iconic London landmarks. I do love London. I was in Chelsea to visit L’Eto for lunch with my friend. We arrived at 1pm and were seated in the basement, which was packed full. We enjoyed a fresh juice before we ordered our food and I really liked that they offered a choice of a range of fruit and vegetables. For starter I had the crab and avocado salad with soy and lime dressing and seared sesame tuna with vegetables and oyster mushrooms for main. My friend had the same starter and plumped for the honey walnut butternut squash ravioli …

An Evening of Pickles at One Leicester Street

I bloody love the London dining scene. Whenever I think of setting sail to live in another country, there are two things that stop me in my tracks – my mum and the incredible restaurants I have become accustom to in, let’s face it, one of the most amazing cities in the world. The week before I left for my Melbourne adventure, I was invited along to One Leicester Street with a group of fellow bloggers to try a specially created pickle and cured meat menu by Chef Patron, Tom Harris. I hadn’t been anywhere near the building since it was St John Hotel and I was so pleasantly surprised when I stepped into the bar. Gone were the cheap plastic furnishings and sterile atmosphere and in their place was a suave and sophisticated bar with soft lighting, mirrors and dark comfortable furnishings. After enjoying a pickley cocktail, we headed downstairs for the remainder of the evening. Downstairs, we all lined up at the pass and listened to Tom tell us about his pickles. Lined …
