Five Guys, Covent Garden

Us Brits love a queue. It’s just as well, as every good no bookings cheap eat restaurant seems to have one. I am not a massive fan, though. I would rather not spend an hour of my life salivating and unable to concentrate on anything else other than getting inside and sliding my order in quick, sharp. Whenever I see a queue, I’ll recoil and either visit another day, or go back outside of peak hours. I visited Five Guys a couple of weeks ago. I had seen the queue many times as I walked past but never plucked up the courage to join it. But I did and was prepared to let misery take control. I was pleasantly surprised, however, when after just five minutes, we were in. What I didn’t realise was there there is a huge seating area downstairs and it’s not exactly the kind of place you will sit and lounge around for hours, so I imagine the turnover is quite high. The concept is simple – choose your burger (hamburger, …

Rooster Booster Superfood Salad, Clockjack Oven

January is the perfect month for dieting. Not that I do it, of course. But I know plenty of people that do. Despite not denying myself anything I want to eat, I have naturally felt like eating a bit healthier after the Christmas gorge. I was intrigued when I heard that Clockjack Oven in Soho has just released a Rooster Booster chicken superfood salad, specially designed by Alyn Williams. I visited Clockjack a few months ago and loved it, so I was excited to go back to try the salad and a couple of other dishes. The Rooster Booster contains a generous helping of the signature rotisserie roasted chicken, blanched broccoli, baby spinach and pumpkin seeds. It is dusted with paprika and served with a light yoghurt and mint dressing. We also enjoyed a chicken burger and the most delicious buttermilk-marinated fried chicken bites. The salad was not as seasoned as I would have liked but the best part was the succulent rotisserie chicken. My mouth waters now just thinking about it. Clockjack Oven14 Denman …

MI1020 – Dining with Nokia Lumia 1020 and Windows Phone

A couple of weeks ago I was invited to the Microsoft house in Mayfair and provided with the new Nokia Lumia 1020 and Windows Surface 2 tablet. I will be writing a post about the devices in the New Year but alongside this I was also invited to MI1020, a clandestine culinary adventure created by Gingerline in partnership with the Nokia Lumia 1020 and Windows Phone. All ‘agents’ were asked to use their super-sleuth skills and the Nokia Lumia 1020’s 41mega-pixel camera to discover an evening of high-end food, art and performance. As an agent I have been sworn to secrecy but what I can say is you should check it out for yourselves. There are a limited number of places available for Saturday 14 and application closes at 23:59 today so be quick. To be in with a chance to attend this free spy themed event, daring diners should register their interest at http://www.gingerline.co.uk/MI1020 Good luck!

Healthy Snacks from itsu

I used to have a salmon sashimi addiction. Every day I would walk past itsu and every day I would have to go in and purchase a packet to satisfy my craving. itsu has been a firm lunchtime favourite of mine for years and I was recently sent a few of the snack goodies to try and I thought I’d share my favourites with you. Honey Cashews What’s not to like? Cashews. Honey. Itsu is onto a winner with these. I wouldn’t count them as a low calorie treat but still, they have to be better than chocolate, no? Miso soup With only 42 calories per pouch, this miso soup is the perfect mid morning or afternoon snack for the calorie counters out there. It’s really easy to make, too. Simply add hot water and you’re away! Istu sells a whole range of healthy snacks including chocolate covered rice cakes, chocolate edamame, wasabi peas and wasabi seaweed thins.

Prezzo Summer Menu

Al fresco dining in London is a bit of a sore point for me. Whenever we see a bit of sun, althgouh let’s be honest that’s quite rare in this country, all I want to do is head to a nice restaurant and sit outside basking in the sunshine. The problem is that everyone else in the city has the same idea, so I always find that the outdoor spaces are mobbed. So I was really looking forward to trying Prezzo last Friday evening. It was one of the hottest evenings of the year and we were booked on a table outside on the small but cute terrace on North Audley Street. Prezzo has just launched a new summer menu, which includes a range of small plates, including dishes such as Soufflé with Beetroot Confit, Grilliad Asparagus and Prosciutto Ham and a Tomato and Mozzarella salad. Diners can choose one plate for £5.25, three for £14.95 or five for £19.95. We enjoyed an Antipasto platter to start – prosciutto ham, salami milano, spicy ventricina salami, buffalo …
