24K Magic at TRAMP

There’s just something about community that makes me go all gooey inside. We don’t have enough of it in the world these days. I remember sitting in my grandparent’s house as a kid lapping up their stories of street parties and deep friendships with neighbours. I can’t deny we live in different times now, but there is a large part of me that craves it. And it is probably this reason I prefer team sports to solo sports and why I am rather fond of going out to a venue and knowing I’ll bump into a friendly face when I get there. You might be wondering where I’m going with this, but bear with me reader. You see, you’d think the only places that have even a whiff of community these days are members’ clubs. But I don’t necessarily agree with that. I am a member of a club (which I absolutely love and is amazing in so many ways), but does it have a real community? I haven’t really found one yet, despite going …

Sophistication at Polo Bar, The Westbury, Mafair

What Cocktails at Polo Bar Where Polo Bar Westbury Hotel 37 Conduit St London W1S 2YF The Experience My name is Euan Fraser and this is my first ever blog post. I was semi-bullied into it by the blog’s Editor Sarah Kemp, who is my other half. I moved to London a few weeks ago after meeting Sarah in Melbourne and am currently settling into life in the city, albeit with a sprained ankle, but I’ll save that story for another time. I hail from Auckland, New Zealand, so venturing into the Polo bar in the Westbury hotel in a part of London I know as Monopoly’s most expensive, was a little surreal for me and I now know why it’s the most expensive property. Upon entering I gazed upon a radiating gold bar, marble finishings, chairs that were close to being thrones and beautiful wooden finished walls. I wasn’t exactly dressed to the same standard as the rest of the patrons drinking and nibbling, but luckily I had a wee half pint pub crawl leading up to …

A Cocktail Party in the City

What Cocktails in the City, where twenty of London’s most innovative cocktail bars throw a three day cocktail party! Where One Mayfair Experience I’ve heard amazing things about Cocktails in the city from people who went to their summer event last year. From what I’ve gathered, the idea is to round up as many of London’s top cocktail mixologists under one roof so that people like you and me can enjoy maximal amount of cocktails for minimal effort. What’s not to love about that? After a pretty long week at work and a sneaky lunch time google image search of the rather fancy One Mayfair where the event was being held, Joe and I were ready to go. The venue, formerly St Mark’s Church and now a Grade I listed building, was an impressive setting for some of the best cocktail makers in London, including Reverend JW Simpson, The Alchemist and City Social, who were joined this year by some equally innovative bars from Amsterdam and Paris. Split over four floors, the heated and fur …

Reunited with Headmasters, Mayfair

Moving away from home is hard for many reasons. The hardest thing for me was missing my friends and family and a single day didn’t pass without wondering what they were doing, wishing I was there with them, laughing at their jokes and attempting to make them laugh with my nerdy jokes. Before As well as missing the usual things like tea bags, English chocolate and the BBC, I also really missed my regular hairdressing salon, Headmasters. After a couple of visits to the Biba Academy in Melbourne, I decided to leave my hair to do it’s thing while I travelled and pay Headmasters a visit when I eventually arrived in London. I cut my trip down by two months and arrived in London a few days ago. Jet lagged, I ventured into central London and walked into Headmasters Mayfair feeling like I had never even been away. I started off with a much needed complimentary coffee and Pervin made her way over to me for a quick Colour Theory Consultation, a new service to …
