There’s just something about community that makes me go all gooey inside. We don’t have enough of it in the world these days. I remember sitting in my grandparent’s house as a kid lapping up their stories of street parties and deep friendships with neighbours. I can’t deny we live in different times now, but there is a large part of me that craves it. What Cocktails in the City, where twenty of London’s most innovative cocktail bars throw a three day cocktail party! Where One Mayfair Experience I’ve heard amazing things about Cocktails in the city from people who went to their summer event last year. From what I’ve gathered, the idea is to round up as many of London’s top cocktail mixologists under one roof so that people like you and me can enjoy maximal amount of cocktails for minimal effort. What’s not to love about that? After a pretty long week at work and a sneaky lunch time google image search of the rather fancy One Mayfair where the event was being held, Joe and I were ready to go. Moving away from home is hard for many reasons. The hardest thing for me was missing my friends and family and a single day didn’t pass without wondering what they were doing, wishing I was there with them, laughing at their jokes and attempting to make them laugh with my nerdy jokes. Before As well as missing the usual things like tea bags, English chocolate and the BBC, I also really missed my regular hairdressing salon, Headmasters. After a couple of visits to the Biba Academy in Melbourne, I decided to leave my hair to do it’s thing while I travelled and pay Headmasters a visit when I eventually arrived in London. I cut my trip down by two months and arrived in London a few days ago. Jet lagged, I ventured into central London and walked into Headmasters Mayfair feeling like I had never even been away. What All you cocktail swiggers out there will be pleased to know that Cocktails in the City are back for another three day cocktail party from 10th-12th March in one of Mayfair’s’ most beautiful Grade II listed buildings. Twenty pop up bars will be spread over four floors, and this year that includes an international floor with guest mixologists from Amsterdam and Paris. Don’t miss your chance to lap up some of London’s tastiest tipples all under one roof. Another exciting edition for this year are the bespoke cocktail master classes that will be taking place on Thursday and Friday. They all look pretty impressive. I’ve added “What if Tequila were British?” with Oxo Tower and Patron Tequila, as well as “Tales of the Sazera” with Hawksmoor Spitalfields Bar and Rittenhouse Rye/Maxime Trijol to my Filofax. I’m heading down ASAP on the Thursday, so can expect another tragic weekday hangover on Friday. Why wait?!
