Pimps and Pinups, Shoreditch

I thoroughly enjoyed my bank holiday weekend. Four days and five nights of relaxation, drinks with friends and lots of indulging. The first day back at work after any kind of holiday is not the easiest, unless you have an incentive to get to the end of the day. Mine just happened to be heading for a cut and colour before popping down to see a new band at The Borderline. I have visited a few salons over the last year and each has been different and unique in its own right and Pimps and Pinups, my hairdressers on Tuesday, was no exception. I remember walking past this salon years ago when I first moved to London and it almost embarrasses me to tell you that the thought of entering used to scare me. You see, the people inside just looked way too cool for my 18 year old self. Fast forward a good few years and as I walk up to the door I realise that all fear has diminished. I also realised as …

Fere & Co Facial

A couple of months ago I visited Fere & Co in Knightsbridge for a facial. Fere’s salon is situated above Neville & Co hair salon and after climbing up the narrow stairs to the top of the building, I was greeted by Fere who showed me into her treatment room. She left while I prepared for my facial by stripping off and getting into bed. I say ‘into bed’ because it was the most comfortable treatment bed I had ever come across. I settled onto the confortable mattress and pulled a thick duvet up on top of me and I’m quite sure that if Fere hadn’t have returned a few minutes later, I would have nodded off. Fere, who has been giving facials for 32 years, arrived back in the room and started by cleansing, toning and analysing my skin, which was followed by an exfoliation scrub, steam and extraction. I relaxed further into the bed and Fere and I chatted about life, food and my blog. The extraction was followed by High Frequency, which …

Pampering at Nailberry, South Kensington

I turned 26 last weekend and up until then I had never had a pedicure and only one manicure at a cheap salon in Brooklyn, NYC. Lauren, if you’re reading this, remember the nubs?! I had heard good things about Nailberry, a delightful little salon that sits on a cute row of shops in the heart of South Kensington, so decided to try it out. From blog I walked through the door and the view was almost comical – four ladies stood behind the reception counter all pointed their heads in my direction and said hello in unison. Within the time that the reply had left my mouth, I had been ushered to a shelf literally full to the brim with different colour nail polishes and asked which one I would like. I am really bad at making decisions so instead of agonising over all the different colours I picked the first one that my eyes were drawn to. One of the stylists noticed which one I was looking at and picked it up, declaring …

Hair at Daniel Galvin

Hair salons. I love them. From the moment I enter until the moment I leave, I feel utterly content. It never fails to amaze me how a small change to the hair on your head can make you feel so different. A couple of weeks ago I visited Daniel Galvin, one of the world’s leading colour salons in London’s West End, for a semi permanent colour treatment. I have had red hair for over two years now and I haven’t even slightly tired of it. By the time I visited Daniel Galvin, the colour had really started to fade. So much so that not everyone could tell that I had roots – and they were over an inch! Before: From blog I was greeted by hair colourist Sam who brought over a couple of colour charts to choose from. I decided that I wanted to go a little darker so we settled on an auburn colour a little darker than what it was. She went away to mix up the colour and I was asked …

Radio, Shoreditch

I shouldn’t like the hairdressers, but I love it. Take a look at any of my school photos and you will understand why. Saying that, I visited my grandma at the weekend and she pulled out an old photo of my mum, my brother and me. I must have only been a year old and there I was in my mums arms, smiling away at the camera. But it wasn’t my devilish little smile that caught my eye, it was my bright carrot top head. I had lovely ginger hair until I was three, when it turned bright blonde. It gradually faded over the years but only to a dull strawberry blonde colour. A few years ago I decided to take the plunge and revert to my ginger roots, the best hair decision I think I’ve ever made. I have tried a few salons in London over the last year and all of them have been fantastic but very different in their own right. This time I decided to head to Shoreditch to try Radio, …
